Kim Dong-wan, a member of the legendary K-pop group Shinhwa and actor, recently held a busking performance to connect with fans amidst ongoing controversies, including allegations from a former manager.
The busking event took place on March 24th at the outdoor stage of the Jandi (Grass) Square in Gangdong-gu, Seoul. The performance ran from 4 PM to 6 PM, and the venue was filled with the vibrant orange color, symbolizing Shinhwa, as fans eagerly anticipated the show.
Taking the stage, Kim Dong-wan expressed his gratitude and hoped for a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone. He mentioned his fondness for outdoor performances, saying, “I hope everyone enjoys the show safely and returns home with good memories. Outdoor performances during this time are great, aren’t they? I’ve been longing for an outdoor stage for a while.” He further added, “I like that I can freely enjoy the performance without the pressure of having to focus solely on it. The natural scenery is also a charming aspect.”
Throughout the performance, Kim Dong-wan treated the audience to a diverse setlist, including his solo track “Handkerchief” and Shinhwa’s hit song “I Pray 4 U,” captivating the crowd and creating a memorable experience.

During the performance, Kim Dong-wan addressed the recent controversies indirectly. He remarked, “Thank you for coming despite the noise. It will continue to be noisy,” adding, “If everyone was quiet, I would have become quiet too,” which drew attention from the audience.
Prior to the concert, Kim Dong-wan faced criticism for his comments regarding the legalization of prostitution and for defending MC Dingdong, who was embroiled in allegations of assaulting a female BJ. Furthermore, the controversy escalated with allegations made by someone claiming to be his former manager.
He also shared his personal beliefs, stating, “I hope you break free from a standardized life and live as yourself. An old fan asked me, ‘Is it over now?’ But no one disappears easily.” He continued, “I think I might be distancing myself from broadcasting a bit. That’s been happening since last year.”

He also mentioned, “I’m not great enough to refuse great programs,” but added, “There are many programs that draw out family matters or concerns. Shouldn’t we not worry about celebrities? I have a sense of aversion to that kind of approach.” He emphasized, “I want to provide enjoyment. I don’t want to drag you into our clumsy lives.”
In closing, Kim Dong-wan stated, “Just being on stage is not an easy thing,” adding, “There’s no need to be upset or hate. I enjoy being on stage as much as eating.” He concluded, “Whether it rains or snows, through good times and hard times, I want to be remembered as a singer and actor who lived on stage.”
He also confessed, “I don’t think I can completely stop SNS activity in the future. There were parts where I didn’t recognize the areas that people are sensitive about. I’m sorry for disappointing many people. But I think I will often disappoint you in the future. I’ll leave if it goes too far.”
Regarding his future plans, Kim Dong-wan shared, “I will see you again in April at a concert hall with affordable tickets.”
