BTS’s RM Performs with an Injury at ‘Arirang’ Comeback Live in Gwanghwamun
On March 21st at 8 PM KST, global superstar group BTS (RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, Jungkook) held their fifth full-length album ‘Arirang’ release commemorative performance, ‘BTS Comeback Live: ARIRANG‘ at the iconic Gwanghwamun Square in Seoul.
During the performance, Jimin expressed his gratitude stating, “Thank you to all the ARMY (BTS’s fandom name) who filled Gwanghwamun like this. Thank you to everyone who helped us have this live performance in such a special place. We prepared Gwanghwamun like this, but we are also working hard every day preparing for the concert. You can look forward to it. But then our *hyung* ended up like this…” referring to RM’s ankle injury.
On March 19th, RM sustained an ankle injury during rehearsals for the Gwanghwamun performance and was taken to the hospital for a thorough examination and treatment. The examination revealed that RM was diagnosed with “accessory navicular sprain and partial ligament rupture and talus contusion (ligament damage and inflammation)” and was advised by medical staff to wear a leg cast and minimize movement for at least two weeks to focus on recovery.
Regarding this, Big Hit Music stated, “Prioritizing the opinion of medical staff and to prevent further aggravation of the injured area, we have made the difficult decision with the artist himself to minimize RM’s movements during ‘BTS Comeback Live: ARIRANG.’ Although there are limitations in performance, RM will participate on stage to the extent possible to connect with ARMY and the audience. As you have waited a long time for this stage, we will do our best to show a performance filled with sincerity.”
BTS released their fifth full-length album ‘Arirang’ on various online music sites on March 20th at 1 PM KST, featuring a total of 14 songs including the title track ‘Swim’.
‘Arirang’ sold 3.98 million copies on its first day of release, topping the Hanteo Daily Chart. This figure surpassed the team’s previous highest first-week sales record (3.37 million copies) in just one day.
