The highly anticipated return of K-pop sensation BTS has taken the world by storm. Their comeback concert, streamed live on Netflix, has topped charts in 80 countries, proving their unwavering global appeal.

Global streaming giant Netflix reported that approximately 18 million viewers worldwide tuned in to watch BTS’s comeback concert. The Saturday night livestream captivated a massive audience of 18.4 million viewers within the first 24 hours of its release. This monumental event has since secured a place in the weekly Top 10 rankings across 80 countries, reaching the coveted No. 1 spot in 24 territories.

The event, staged in the iconic Gwanghwamun Square in Seoul, was broadcast globally in real-time. Netflix highlighted the robust streaming infrastructure that facilitated the live broadcast, including its proprietary Open Connect content delivery network, load-balancing systems, automatic multi-encoder switching, and a live-specific encoding pipeline. The massive production involved a diverse international team, with staff from 10 countries working across eight different languages.

From a technical perspective, the broadcast utilized 23 cameras, 124 broadcast monitors, and a staggering 164.5 metric tons of equipment. Approximately 9.5 kilometers of power cables were installed at the venue to power the event, and the operation relied on an impressive 40 terabytes of server capacity.

“BTS Comeback Live: Arirang” is currently available on Netflix, offering a premium viewing experience with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos support. Subtitles in over 34 languages have been added to enhance accessibility for a global audience. The performance marked the group’s first full-member comeback in nearly four years, following a hiatus during which members fulfilled their mandatory military service obligations.

Fans can delve deeper into the group’s journey with the upcoming documentary, “BTS: The Return,” scheduled to premiere this Friday. The documentary promises a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the group reuniting in Los Angeles in the summer of 2025 after completing their military service to record “Arirang.” It will explore the pressures and creative processes that accompanied their highly anticipated return to the music scene.
