Global K-Pop sensations BTS, featuring members RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook, made a historic visit to Mexico, brilliantly showcasing their immense global presence and influence.
On May 6 (local time), the septet held a significant meeting with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum at the Presidential Palace in Mexico City. This high-profile engagement was initiated by an official invitation from President Sheinbaum and lasted approximately 40 minutes, commencing at 4:50 PM.
President Sheinbaum warmly welcomed BTS, acknowledging that many Mexican fans had long awaited a performance from the group. The Mexican government honored the members as ‘Distinguished Visitors’ (Visitantes Distinguidos), presenting them with a commemorative plaque. The plaque recognized BTS for inspiring Mexican youth through their music and contributing to the formation of a community built on respect, empathy, diversity, and a culture of peace.
Later that day, all seven members joined the President on the balcony to greet the enthusiastic citizens gathered in Zócalo Square. An estimated 50,000 fans filled the square, showering BTS with fervent cheers. Addressing the crowd in Spanish, the members expressed how much they missed Mexico, adding, “Your energy is truly incredible. Thank you so much for your support!”

Following the meeting, President Sheinbaum shared her excitement on her personal SNS, posting, “I was delighted to welcome the group most beloved by Mexican youth. BTS’s music and the values they convey beautifully connect Mexico and the Republic of Korea.” She further praised BTS’s music for consistently delivering positive messages that champion a culture of peace and inclusion.
Local media outlets provided extensive coverage of the historic event. Major daily newspapers, including El Universal, Milenio, and Excélsior, heavily featured reports on every aspect, from the meeting with the President to the balcony greetings and the incredible fervor of the crowds at Zócalo Square.
BTS is scheduled to hold three highly anticipated concerts on May 7th, 9th, and 10th at the Estadio GNP Seguros in Mexico City. All three performances are completely sold out, underscoring their immense popularity. The Mexico City Chamber of Commerce estimates that these concerts will generate a substantial economic impact of approximately $107.5 million (around 155.7 billion Korean Won).
