While districts like Seongsu or Myeong-dong have traditionally defined Seoul’s beauty landscape, Yongsan-gu is rapidly emerging as a new hub for personalized beauty with the grand opening of Amorepacific’s innovative flagship store, Amore Yongsan. Here, the concept of beauty is redefined: one unique formula for one unique individual.

During a recent visit, the cutting-edge Hera Custom Match service captivated attention. Behind a transparent partition, a sophisticated two-armed robot meticulously crafted a bespoke foundation. Inside its sealed booth, the robot precisely selected bottles, transported them to the pigment station, and expertly mixed ingredients, occasionally performing a brief, engaging “dance” during the process.

The freshly prepared bottle then glides out through a dedicated slot, ready for the customer. This personalized product is the culmination of a thorough 15-minute, AI-powered consultation with a dedicated beauty counselor. This advanced consultation leverages a vast palette of 335 unique shades, encompassing both cushion and traditional foundation formats, to ensure a perfect match.

“Hera Custom Match is undeniably our most sought-after service. We accurately measure your skin’s characteristics to formulate a product that perfectly complements your skin tone,” explained a store manager. “The true value we offer here is the creation of something exclusively yours.”

Mirroring the precision of the foundation robot, another robotic arm nearby was observed expertly handling the creation of custom lip cosmetics. For international visitors who might not have pre-booked a full consultation, multilingual Korean staff members guide them through self-service AI kiosks, enabling them to quickly find their ideal foundation shade match.

The store manager further elaborated on the significant presence of international clientele, particularly those seeking customized beauty solutions.

“The demographic split between Korean and foreign customers is quite balanced, close to 50-50,” the manager noted. “However, when it comes to actual product customization, foreign customers make up a larger proportion, roughly seven out of ten.”

Beyond makeup, many international visitors show keen interest in Amore Yongsan’s advanced scalp diagnostic programs. The manager highlighted, “Currently, one of the most popular requests comes from Japanese customers specifically seeking the Mise-en-Scene bespoke essence.” This bespoke hair care service mirrors the personalized approach of the Hera counters, offering an impressive 45 potential custom serum combinations for optimal hair health.

Amore Yongsan also integrates a cutting-edge “City Lab” section, reminiscent of a research facility. Here, visitors engage in private consultations with researchers in white coats, leveraging a proprietary AI scan that meticulously maps skin attributes such as pores, wrinkles, pigmentation, and barrier strength. An accompanying AI tool then uses this research data to predict how a visitor’s skin might evolve over time, offering invaluable insights into future skincare needs.

Further along, the interactive fragrance lab invites guests to explore the intricate process of scent creation, deconstructing finished fragrances ingredient by ingredient. An Amorepacific official emphasized, “This exhibit transcends merely showcasing final products; it reveals the entire research and development journey.”

Amore Yongsan embodies Amorepacific’s pioneering vision of “creating new beauty,” a philosophy championed by chairman Suh Kyung-bae. Marking the company’s 80th anniversary last year, Amorepacific set an ambitious revenue target of 15 trillion won ($10 billion) by 2035. As Suh Kyung-bae articulated, “As a beauty creator that has pioneered and continuously innovated new realms of beauty, we are committed to presenting the world with a distinctive beauty that harmonizes body and mind, transcending the conventional boundaries of age and time.”
