Samsung Electronics Co. has once again claimed the leading position in the global smartphone market during the second quarter, surpassing its key American competitor, Apple Inc., as recent industry data revealed on Tuesday.

Market analysis from Counterpoint Research indicates that Samsung secured a 24 percent share of worldwide smartphone shipments between April and June. In contrast, Apple held the second position with a 20 percent market share during the same period.

This shift comes after Apple previously dominated the global smartphone sector in the first quarter, boasting a 21 percent share compared to Samsung’s 20 percent, according to the market tracker’s previous reports.

Counterpoint analysts attribute Samsung’s impressive performance in the second quarter to several key factors: robust demand for its cutting-edge Galaxy S26 series, strategic and relatively modest price adjustments in crucial markets like India and the Middle East, and effective, aggressive promotional strategies.

Despite this resurgence for Samsung, the broader global smartphone market experienced a significant contraction in the second quarter. This downturn was largely driven by ongoing challenges related to the memory chip supply shortage impacting the industry.
