Posco, a leading global steel manufacturer, announced on Thursday a pivotal partnership with KB Kookmin Bank to launch an innovative supply chain finance service. This strategic collaboration is specifically designed to significantly enhance the liquidity of Posco’s extensive network of steel industry suppliers, fostering greater financial stability across the sector.

The memorandum of understanding (MOU) was formally signed during a ceremony held at the Posco Center in southern Seoul. Key representatives present included Posco President Lee Hee-geun and KB Kookmin Bank CEO Lee Hwan-ju, underscoring the importance of this initiative.

This groundbreaking financing program will seamlessly connect companies within Posco’s robust supply chain directly with KB Kookmin Bank. The service aims to empower suppliers by facilitating easier access to crucial funding, particularly when they face challenges such as delayed payments or have limited collateral available.

Under the terms of this comprehensive partnership, KB Kookmin Bank will play a multifaceted role. Beyond managing payment settlements and providing essential loans to Posco’s valued partner companies, the bank will also extend vital services, including expert environmental, social, and governance (ESG) consulting to support sustainable practices across the supply chain.

Looking ahead, both companies are committed to integrating KB Kookmin Bank’s advanced lending program directly into Posco’s proprietary My Posco platform, with an anticipated service launch later this year. This integration will create a streamlined, digital-first experience, allowing participating suppliers to complete the entire loan process – from initial application to final disbursement – conveniently through the unified platform.

Posco emphasized that companies utilizing this new service will benefit from highly preferential interest rates, among the most competitive in the industry. This crucial advantage will enable suppliers to secure necessary liquidity while substantially lowering their financing costs, a critical relief amidst the ongoing economic challenges and prolonged downturn impacting the steel sector.

President Lee Hee-geun remarked, “This agreement represents a significant evolution in Posco’s commitment to our coexistence cooperation model. We envision this partnership setting a new benchmark for collaborative success between South Korea’s pivotal manufacturing and financial industries.”

To ensure maximum understanding and adoption, Posco and KB Kookmin Bank are also planning a joint briefing session for their partner companies later this year. This event will serve to detail the program’s myriad financial benefits and outline the comprehensive support measures available to participants.
