K-Pop Global Icons BTS Secure Second Artist of the Year Title at American Music Awards
Global K-Pop sensation BTS proudly accepted the Artist of the Year award at the 52nd American Music Awards on Monday. This monumental achievement marks the group’s second victory in the ceremony’s most prestigious category, solidifying their enduring impact on the music industry.
The acclaimed septet received this top honor following their highly anticipated return as a full group earlier this year. Their fifth studio album, “Arirang,” released after all seven members completed their mandatory military service, has been met with widespread critical and commercial success.
BTS triumphed over an impressive roster of nominees, including global superstars like Taylor Swift, Bruno Mars, Bad Bunny, and Lady Gaga. This significant win further highlights the K-Pop group’s unparalleled global influence and immense popularity. It also serves as their second Artist of the Year award at the AMAs, building on their historic first win in 2021, where they also competed against Taylor Swift.
The comeback album, “Arirang,” launched in March to strong commercial acclaim, with its lead track “Swim” quickly becoming a global favorite. According to the Billboard Global Excl. US chart dated May 23, “Swim” notably secured the top position for the sixth time this year and claimed the No. 2 spot on Billboard’s “Global 200” chart. The album “Arirang” itself also performed exceptionally, ranking No. 2 on Spotify’s Weekly Top Album Global chart, while “Swim” reached No. 4 on the music streaming platform’s Weekly Top Song Global chart.
As the members of BTS walked onto the stage to accept their coveted award, the arena erupted into thunderous chants of “BTS! BTS!” from their devoted fanbase, ARMYs.
“ARMYs, we did it once again!” exclaimed RM during the emotional acceptance speech. “It’s an immense honor to receive this precious award after everyone has completed their military service. Since this is a fan-voted award, our biggest thanks and deepest gratitude, as always, go to ARMYs all over the world.”
J-Hope passionately added, “We’ve had such an overwhelming response to this album. Honestly, thank you for embracing ‘Arirang’ and every single song on this album. We’re so incredibly grateful.”
Jimin also took a moment to express his heartfelt appreciation for the unwavering support from fans throughout their current world tour.
“Thank you for following us on tour and showing us so much love in every single city,” he shared. “And to all the ARMYs who consistently support and love us, thank you. We truly love you.”
The American Music Awards distinguish themselves by determining nominees through fan engagement metrics, encompassing streaming numbers, album sales, radio airplay, and tour revenue. This makes BTS’ victory a profound testament to the unparalleled power and dedication of their global ARMY fandom.
In addition to the top honor, BTS also celebrated wins in other key categories at the awards ceremony, including Best Male K-Pop Artist and/or Song of the Summer for their hit single “Swim.”
The global K-Pop phenomenon is set to continue their electrifying tour with highly anticipated concerts in Las Vegas on Wednesday and Thursday. Following these dates, they will return to Busan, South Korea, in June for special concerts coinciding with their 13th debut anniversary, promising more unforgettable performances for their fans worldwide.
