Huawei Technologies is set to make a significant global investment of 18 billion yuan ($2.6 billion) into pioneering research and development for smart driving technologies. This substantial commitment includes 10 billion yuan specifically allocated to enhancing computing power essential for AI training, as announced by a senior executive on Thursday.

Looking ahead, Huawei plans to dedicate an impressive 70 billion to 80 billion yuan over the next five years to further advance its computing power infrastructure. Jin Yuzhi, Huawei’s senior vice president, shared this vision at a Beijing event, held strategically ahead of China’s largest auto show opening on Friday, underscoring the company’s long-term strategic focus on intelligent mobility.

Huawei is actively solidifying its dominant position, having rapidly emerged as a pivotal supplier within China’s burgeoning smart electric vehicle (EV) sector over the last four years. This rapid ascent is fueled by Huawei’s advanced automotive technologies and innovative solutions, which are increasingly preferred by affluent Chinese consumers, often chosen over traditional German-engineered alternatives.

The event on Thursday showcased a remarkable array of 38 vehicle models, all integrating Huawei’s cutting-edge smart driving and intelligent cockpit technologies. This impressive lineup included four Audi models and the Toyota BZ7, a collaborative development with Guangzhou Automobile, highlighting the broad industry adoption of Huawei’s intelligent vehicle solutions.

Although the automotive business currently constitutes a relatively smaller segment of Huawei’s diverse portfolio, which spans telecommunications, smartphones, and cloud computing, it has unequivocally become the company’s fastest-growing sector. Automotive-related sales demonstrated explosive growth, surging 72 percent in 2025 to reach 45 billion yuan ($6.5 billion), underscoring its pivotal role in future revenue streams.

Overall, Huawei reported a 2.2 percent increase in its total revenue last year, reaching 880.9 billion yuan.

Furthermore, the company unveiled its much-anticipated latest innovation, the Qiankun ADS advanced driving assistance system, marking another significant step in its journey toward autonomous driving capabilities. (Reuters)
