Cha Eun-woo’s W13B Full Tax Payment

Cha Eun-woo's W13B Full Tax Payment

K-pop sensation Cha Eun-woo, a prominent member of the boy group Astro and one of South Korea’s most sought-after endorsers, has successfully settled a significant tax dispute with the National Tax Service, remitting approximately 13 billion won ($8.7 million), as confirmed by local media outlets.

In a statement released Wednesday on social media, the acclaimed singer and actor affirmed his respect for the procedures and outcomes of the National Tax Service, confirming he had paid all relevant taxes to avert any further public confusion. He further pledged to “faithfully cooperate with any remaining procedures” and extended his apologies for causing public concern.

This high-profile tax case initially garnered significant attention in January, following reports that the K-pop idol had received notification of an additional tax assessment totaling approximately 20 billion won. This assessment stemmed from a comprehensive audit conducted by tax authorities in the first half of last year, with certain reports labeling it among the largest ever levied against a South Korean celebrity.

Cha Eun-woo faced considerable public scrutiny regarding his financial arrangements, specifically the use of complex corporate structures. These included a talent management company registered under his mother’s name and an eel restaurant, both reportedly utilized in methods aimed at reducing tax liabilities. The final settlement amount was subsequently revised downwards from the initial 20 billion won assessment, after tax authorities re-evaluated and adjusted for overlapping tax categories, according to local media insights.
