Samsung Electronics announced Wednesday that it is supplying its high-efficiency heat pump air conditioning solutions in large quantities for a significant residential redevelopment project in Cornwall, England.
The project focuses on the revitalization of a former mining site, spanning approximately 2 million square meters in the county.
By 2035, the site will be transformed into the West Carclaze Garden Village, a sustainable residential community featuring housing, schools, hospitals, and a community center.
Samsung Electronics will provide residential EHS (Eco Heating System) products that deliver heating and hot water, leveraging a high-efficiency heat pump system. These heat-pump products are gaining traction due to their lower carbon dioxide emissions compared to traditional fossil fuel-based boilers, aligning with Europe’s carbon neutrality policies.
The products being supplied include the Mono R290 and Mono R32, both engineered with lower Global Warming Potential (GWP).
The Mono R290 utilizes propane, a natural refrigerant, to efficiently heat water up to 75 degrees Celsius, even in temperatures as low as minus 10 C.
The Mono R32 employs a refrigerant with a GWP approximately 68 percent lower than the commonly used R410. Its compact design also enables versatile installation options, such as under windows and balconies.
In addition to heating and cooling solutions, Samsung Electronics will also provide a range of home appliances, including refrigerators, washing machines, and ovens. These appliances will be integrated into the SmartThings ecosystem, offering users simplified control and reduced household energy consumption.
The village will also benefit from the application of “SmartThingsPro,” an AI-based B2B automation system designed for comprehensive energy management of communal facilities such as schools and hospitals.
“We aim to expand our high-efficiency heat pump solution supply by further advancing our energy management systems,” stated Lim Sung-taek, Vice President of Samsung Electronics’ Digital Appliances Business Division.
