Psy’s Girl Group Baby Don’t Cry Unveils ‘After Cry,’ the First Chapter of Their ‘Tears Trilogy’ Project
Baby Don’t Cry is making a splash with the release of their highly anticipated debut EP, “After Cry,” boasting a production dream team.
This vibrant K-pop quartet – featuring Korean members Yihyun and Beni, alongside Japanese members Kumi and Mia – is the exciting girl group nurtured by Psy’s renowned agency, P Nation.
Following their initial debut in June 2025 with the electrifying single “F Girl,” the group swiftly followed up four months later with their second single, “I Don’t Care.”
Now, they return with a collection of tracks curated by industry giants including Ryan Jhun, celebrated lyricist Kim Eana, and versatile artist Giriboy, all for their new EP, “After Cry.”
“It’s our very first EP, and we poured our hearts and souls into its preparation,” Beni shared at the media showcase in Seoul on Tuesday. “Our biggest hope is to connect with as many listeners as possible and to captivate the world with our performances.”
This new EP marks the commencement of Baby Don’t Cry’s ambitious “tears trilogy” project.
Diving deep into the raw emotions that precede tears, rather than dwelling on the aftermath, “After Cry” takes listeners on a poignant journey. The EP features five compelling tracks, including the title track “Bittersweet,” alongside “Mama I’m Alright,” “Shapeshifter,” “Moves Like Ciara,” and “Tears On My Pillow.”
“Bittersweet” is described as an energetic and optimistic song that reminisces about memories that feel equally pleasant and slightly sorrowful over time.
“It’s a song that evokes both joy and a touch of solitude. It might resurface some long-forgotten memories,” Yihyun explained. “It brought me back to my trainee days, particularly the nerve-wracking monthly evaluations. I distinctly remember shedding tears after less-than-ideal feedback, but I also realize that without those experiences, I wouldn’t be standing here today.”
Beni emphasized the track’s departure from the group’s signature sound.
“It presents a distinct coming-of-age perspective when compared to ‘I Don’t Care.’ It delves into the challenges of growing up, but it’s not exclusively about sadness – it’s also a celebration of growth and the journey of progress,” she elaborated.
The impressive production team behind the album has garnered considerable attention. The acclaimed lyricist Kim Eana and sought-after producer Ryan Jhun collaboratively crafted most of the tracks, effectively shaping the overarching vibe of the EP. “Moves Like Ciara” stands as the single exception, a creation of rapper Giriboy and Yook Gun-hyung.
Mia expressed her profound gratitude for the opportunity to collaborate with such esteemed professionals.
“It was truly an honor to work alongside Kim Eana. The lyrics in the bridge are especially emotionally charged and deeply meaningful,” she stated.
Yihyun added that recording the EP demanded a delicate balance of emotional expression.
“Kim Eana encouraged us to channel our emotions throughout the recording process, emphasizing the depth and detail in her lyrics. Ryan Jhun consistently provided infectious energy and unwavering support, which served as a huge source of strength,” she conveyed.
The members also shared the encouragement they received from Psy, the visionary leader of P Nation.
“He gave us the encouraging words that every track felt like it had the potential to succeed. He told us to give it our all, since we had been given such great songs,” Beni said.
Looking forward, Yihyun conveyed the group’s ambitions for this promotion period.
“Our ultimate dream is to achieve first place on a music show and have the chance to perform an encore. It would be a tremendous honor if we could accomplish that, and we’re committed to giving our absolute best,” she concluded.
