Posco Group is leveraging its innovative steel technology to enhance accessibility to arts and culture for individuals with visual impairments.

According to the group, the Posco 1% Foundation, its philanthropic arm, recently donated tactile exhibition installations to the National Museum of Korea in February, creating a more inclusive museum experience.

These installations are specifically designed to enable people with disabilities to explore and appreciate artworks through the sense of touch.

The Posco 1% Foundation, funded by voluntary employee contributions equivalent to one percent of their salaries, utilized PosArt, Posco’s premium color steel plate technology, for this project. PosArt reproduces artworks with uniquely textured surfaces, allowing visitors to feel intricate details such as brushstrokes and artistic nuances.

The installations were expertly produced by Posco Humans, a social enterprise within the group and a certified workplace committed to providing employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities.

The donation includes three types of facilities: a prominent decorative wall strategically placed at the entrance of the museum’s calligraphy gallery, a tactile table designed for hands-on exploration of significant artworks, and four carefully curated showcase displays highlighting key artifacts.

The wall installation, aptly named “Wall of Ancient Steles,” beautifully recreates inscriptions from historically significant stone monuments, showcasing the evolution of traditional Korean calligraphy. Spanning 9 meters in width and 3.9 meters in height, the “Wall of Ancient Steles” expertly translates visual elements into tactile form using PosArt.

The tactile table features braille descriptions alongside textured panels created through an innovative 3D layering technique, enabling visitors to physically engage with and appreciate the stylistic nuances of renowned master calligraphers.

In related news, the Posco Art Museum is currently showcasing the diverse applications of PosArt in its ongoing exhibitions, “Spirits of the Water” and “The Recorders of Nature,” which are open to the public through May 3. The exhibitions feature three-dimensional representations of fascinating flora and fauna, including fish, insects, and plants, all designed for tactile interaction.

Posco Group has affirmed its commitment to expanding barrier-free cultural access by strategically combining its advanced materials technology with impactful social value initiatives.
