Seoul is gearing up with comprehensive security and traffic management plans for the highly anticipated BTS comeback concert on March 21st at Gwanghwamun Square. Here’s essential information for attendees and visitors.
Entry
Access to the concert viewing area will be controlled through 31 designated entry points located around Gwanghwamun Square and along Sejong-daero.
Security
Stringent security measures will be in place. Metal detectors will be operating at all entry gates, and bag checks will commence at 7:00 AM. Attendees are encouraged to minimize the number of belongings they bring. Law enforcement will also utilize CCTV surveillance teams and strategically position barricades and police vehicles to deter any potential vehicle-related incidents.
Crowd control
Authorities will closely monitor crowd density in real-time. Entry may be restricted if the area reaches maximum capacity to ensure public safety.
Traffic
Significant road closures will be implemented around Gwanghwamun, affecting sections of Sejong-daero, Sajik-ro, Yulgok-ro, Saemunan-ro, and Jongno, in a phased approach.
Specifically, a portion of Sejong-daero, between Gwanghwamun and City Hall intersections, will be closed from 9:00 PM on March 20th until 6:00 AM on March 22nd. Additional closures will occur on Sajik-ro and Yulgok-ro from 4:00 PM to 11:00 PM on March 21st. Furthermore, parts of Jongno and Saemunan-ro – between the Four Seasons Seoul and Seorin intersection – will be closed from 7:00 PM to 11:00 PM on the evening of the concert.
After the show
To facilitate a smooth and safe dispersal of attendees after the concert, police will collaborate with event organizers to direct spectators to nearby subway stations in a controlled, phased manner. Authorities may request subway trains to bypass particularly crowded stations – including Euljiro 1-ga Station (Subway Line 2), Jonggak Station (Subway Line 1), and Anguk Station (Subway Line 3) – if overcrowding becomes a concern.
Police officers will also be strategically deployed in popular areas such as Itaewon, Hongdae, and Seongsu-dong, anticipating potential movement of concertgoers to these locations following the event.
