A new survey reveals that over 90% of international BTS fans have studied Korean, driven primarily by their passion for the K-pop sensation.
The Multicultural Convergence Research Institute conducted a survey across 69 countries and discovered that a remarkable 93.4% of BTS fans have engaged in learning the Korean language. The majority are at the beginner level, utilizing apps and online video resources, with only 7.8% opting for in-person classes. Over half (54%) have dedicated less than a year to their studies, with aspirations to achieve TOPIK (Test of Proficiency in Korean) level 4, indicating high intermediate proficiency. However, only 3% have attained this level so far.
Researchers highlight the crucial role of structured and consistent lessons, alongside the use of engaging and relevant learning materials, to facilitate continued progress for these dedicated fans. As the highly anticipated BTS concert in March draws near, the survey anticipates a surge in interest in Korean language learning among overseas fans eager to connect with the group on a deeper level and fully immerse themselves in the concert experience.
