Apink celebrated their 15th debut anniversary with a spectacular concert, “The Origin: Apink,” held at Jangchung Arena in Seoul over the weekend. The sold-out shows on Saturday and Sunday solidified Apink’s status as one of K-pop’s most enduring and beloved girl groups.

“The Origin: Apink” concert served as a meticulously crafted retrospective of the quintet’s illustrious career. The show masterfully blended nostalgic moments with polished live vocals and impeccably synchronized choreography, offering fans a journey through the group’s evolution.

Sunday’s performance began with a recreation of Apink’s 2011 debut teaser film, immediately transporting the audience back to the group’s early days. Moments later, the five members emerged on stage in charming strawberry pink dresses – a clear homage to their signature color. They launched into their early hits, including “I Don’t Know,” “My My,” and “Bubibu.” While the songs retained their youthful charm, the live vocals showcased a newfound depth, honed by years of experience.

Following a playful comment from member Jung Eun-ji, who joked about “lifting the roof off Jangchung Arena,” the energy surged with fan favorites like “NoNoNo,” “Five,” and “It Girl,” eliciting enthusiastic cheers from the crowd.

Throughout the majority of the set, Jung anchored the performances with her consistent and powerful vocals, while Yoon Bo-mi and Kim Nam-joo delivered dynamic vocal support. Despite often being recognized as subvocalists, Park Cho-rong and Oh Ha-young displayed confident and stable live singing, further cementing the group’s reputation for vocal harmony. Their intricate harmonies and controlled vocal delivery highlighted both nostalgia and the maturity that comes from years performing on stage.

The emotional intensity increased mid-concert with ballads “Overwrite” and “Memories.” As photos of the members spanning the past 15 years played on the screens behind them, it became clear how integral Apink’s identity is built on their enduring bond in addition to polished performances.

The atmosphere then took a comedic turn with a short film titled “What if Apink were a boy group?” – a light-hearted segment presenting the group members as a soon-to-debut boy band. What began as a playful skit quickly evolved into a captivating performance as the group delivered a cover of TVXQ’s 2008 hit “Mirotic,” trading their signature image for sleek black outfits and sharper choreography.

This transformation continued with “Fizzy Soda” – a B-side track from their 11th EP, “Re: Love,” released in January – followed by a medley of “Nothing” and “Red Carpet,” revealing a darker and more assertive side to the beloved girl group.

Leader Park Cho-rong later explained that the concept was inspired by imagining how Apink might have debuted as a boy group. “We’ve been Apink for 15 years, so we started wondering what it would’ve been like if we had debuted differently,” she said, noting that “Fizzy Soda” marked their first foray into this particular genre and choreography style.

As the group launched into more fan-favorite hits such as “I’m So Sick” and “Dumhdurum,” fans rose from their seats, waving their panda-shaped light sticks – known affectionately as “pandabongs” – in perfect synchronicity. The vibrant energy flowed seamlessly into a hit medley featuring “Luv,” “Mr. Chu,” and “Hush,” serving as a powerful reminder of the sheer volume of signature songs Apink has released throughout their remarkable career.

Apink also showcased tracks from “Re: Love,” including the title track, “Love Me More.” These newer songs blended effortlessly with their older hits, emphasizing the group’s ability to evolve while staying true to their core musical identity.

Towards the concert’s conclusion, the members took turns expressing their sincere gratitude to their dedicated fandom, Panda.

“Because you continued to wait for us, support us, and love us, we were able to keep holding concerts and releasing albums,” said Yoon. “If you continue to believe in us, we’ll work even harder.”

Jung reflected on her personal growth throughout the group’s journey.

“Because of Panda, I think my potential to become a better person has grown,” said Apink’s main vocalist. “I’ll continue working hard to remain someone who can bring you laughter.”

Oh addressed lingering doubts regarding the group’s longevity. “Some people might wonder whether Apink can keep performing or releasing albums,” she said. “With this album and this concert, we wanted to prove that we absolutely can.” Park echoed Oh’s sentiment, stating that she doesn’t want to “lose Apink that the members and fans built together over 15 years.”

Kim grew emotional while thanking fans for their unwavering support over the past 15 years. “Even if someone lets go of Apink’s hand, Apink will never let go of Apink’s hand,” she said through tears. “Even if people say eternity doesn’t exist, please believe in Apink’s eternity.”

The concert ended with “The Wave,” followed by encore performances of “Hold My Hand” and “Sunshine” from their latest EP, along with “Sky High” and “Tap Clap.”

Following their Seoul shows, Apink will continue “The Origin” tour across Asia with stops in Taipei, Taiwan, on March 7, Macao on March 21, Singapore on April 4 and Kaohsiung, Taiwan, on April 11.
