NewJeans’ Hit Song ‘New Jeans’ Surpasses 500 Million Streams on Spotify!
The popular K-pop girl group NewJeans continues to break records! Their song “New Jeans” from their second EP ‘Get Up’ has surpassed 500 million streams on Spotify, the world’s leading audio and music streaming platform, as of February 20th. The song has reached a staggering 500,029,607 plays, marking their 6th song to achieve this milestone. Having passed 400 million streams in June of last year, it has gained an additional 100 million streams in approximately 8 months, demonstrating its enduring popularity.
“New Jeans” stands out with its unique blend of UK garage and Jersey club rhythms. The song’s clever lyrics, which creatively incorporate the group’s name, combined with its sophisticated melody, made it an instant hit. Upon release, it dominated major Korean music platform real-time charts, consistently holding the top two positions.
The song’s global success is also noteworthy. “New Jeans” charted on Billboard’s “Global 200” and “Global Excl. US” for 9 and 10 weeks, respectively. It also entered Spotify’s “Weekly Top Songs” global and US charts, achieving worldwide recognition. The “New Jeans” music video, which collaborated with the iconic American animated series “The Powerpuff Girls,” became a viral sensation, topping YouTube’s trending videos chart in the US upon its release.
Including “New Jeans,” the group has now achieved a remarkable total of 15 songs with over 100 million streams on Spotify. “OMG” boasts over 900 million streams, “Super Shy” and “Ditto” have surpassed 800 million, “Hype Boy” has reached over 700 million, “Attention” has exceeded 500 million, “ETA” has over 400 million, “Cookie” has passed 300 million, and “Hurt,” “Cool With You,” “How Sweet,” and “Supernatural” each have over 200 million streams. “ASAP,” “Get Up,” and “Bubble Gum” have each surpassed 100 million streams. The cumulative Spotify streams of all NewJeans songs now exceed a phenomenal 7.3 billion.
Previously, in October of last year, NewJeans lost the first trial to confirm the validity of their exclusive contract with ADOR, and all members expressed their intention to return to ADOR without appealing. However, in December of the same year, ADOR notified Daniel of the termination of his exclusive contract and filed a lawsuit seeking damages of 43.1 billion won against Daniel, one member of his family, and Min Hee-jin. Min Hee-jin established a new agency, “OK,” in October of last year.
