Singer Kwon Jin-ah identified body image obsession as the starting point for her messages of self-loathing.
Kwon Jin-ah held a comeback album showcase at NOL Theater Hapjeong Dongyang Life Hall in Mapo-gu, Seoul, on the 15th at 3 PM. Kwon Jin-ah will release her 3rd EP, ‘SAVE ME’, through major online music streaming sites today at 6 PM.
On this day, Kwon Jin-ah stated, “I disliked my appearance and physique, so I went on diets for it, and I suffered from anorexia and bulimia due to body image obsession, which I expressed in the music video.” She added, “I couldn’t be free from the desire to love a ‘beautiful’ physique myself, and I wanted to convey a message about this.”
‘SAVE ME’ is an album that garners attention for Kwon Jin-ah’s ‘genre transformation.’ This marks Kwon Jin-ah’s first venture into the rock genre, herself beloved by the public for her powerful vocals and delicate sensibility, delivering a fresh shock to music fans. Through her career-first all-rock-based production, Kwon Jin-ah has infused themes of hurt and self-hatred into a rock sound.
The title track ‘MONSTER’ is a rock number carrying a message of encouragement to shake off the self-hatred rooted in one’s heart and save oneself. Its overwhelming sing-along part, reminiscent of a midsummer festival stage, delivers an exhilarating sense of liberation to listeners.
‘SAVE ME’ features a total of 5 tracks, including ‘WHO CAN CHANGE,’ used as background music for the trailer, ‘MONSTER,’ the pre-released track ‘Rain on me’ which garnered an enthusiastic response on June 23rd, ’87days,’ and ‘Don’t Save Me,’ showcasing Kwon Jin-ah’s expanded musical spectrum.
Following the release of this album, Kwon Jin-ah plans to perform her captivating live sound at the ‘2026 Incheon Pentaport Rock Festival with KB Kookmin Card.’
