Singer Hwang Young-woong is actively promoting his return with festival appearances and more, following his explanation regarding school bullying allegations. However, public sentiment remains skeptical.

Hwang Young-woong’s agency, Golden Voice, announced a wide-ranging comeback, starting with the ’54th Gangjin Celadon Festival’ on the 28th, and potentially leading to appearances on terrestrial broadcasting channels.

Numerous requests for Hwang Young-woong to perform at local events and festivals are pouring in. The agency claims they have received over 12 requests from festivals and events across the country and are in discussions for appearances on terrestrial broadcasting stations.

However, his return faces continued scrutiny from the public. Hwang Young-woong previously appeared on MBN’s trot competition program ‘Burning Trot Man’ in 2023 and was considered a strong contender for the win. However, controversies arose, including allegations of school bullying, assault records, and dating violence, leading to his voluntary withdrawal from the program.

At the time, Hwang Young-woong stated, “I will reflect on the past, resolve misunderstandings, and sincerely apologize. I want to correct stories that are not true for those who believe in me.” However, he has continued activities based on his fandom, such as concerts and album releases, without providing further clarification.

Recently, his agency released a statement explaining, “The reason we remained silent regarding the past school bullying allegations was not because the allegations were true. It was the singer’s decision out of concern for the potential harm to the competition stage and fellow artists.”

The statement further claimed, “A significant portion of the allegations currently circulating have been maliciously edited or are one-sided claims with unverified facts. While there may have been arguments or wanderings among friends during his school days, there was no instance of consistently bullying a specific person or engaging in the sadistic behavior as reported.”

The agency continued, “During his period of self-reflection, Hwang Young-woong looked back on himself. We decided that we could no longer allow the situation where false information, without verification, is being treated as the truth. Now, we will not hide, but boldly reveal the truth to restore his reputation as a singer and do our best to prevent such unfair cases from happening again.” They also released Hwang Young-woong’s student record as supporting evidence, which included evaluations such as “Significantly improved in interpersonal relationships and attitude” and “Has a good personality and active interpersonal relationships.”

This explanation was released after the cancellation of his appearance at an event hosted by Gangjin County in South Jeolla Province, raising questions about the timing of the statement. More importantly, there is criticism that the statement comes too late, approximately three years after the controversy first emerged.

Furthermore, he is planning a comeback to terrestrial broadcasting despite the still unfavorable public opinion, which led to the cancellation of his local festival performance. It remains to be seen whether Hwang Young-woong can regain public trust with this opportunity. Will Hwang Young-woong be able to recover the trust of the public with this opportunity? All eyes are on him.
