Harvard University’s Yenching Library is systematically collecting and preserving K-pop merchandise dating from the 1990s to the present, the Harvard Gazette reported on March 26. This unique collection originated from the ‘Korean Stars’ class led by Assistant Professor Pyeon Chan-yong of the Department of East Asian Languages and Civilizations. It offers academic insights into the evolution of K-pop goods, such as iconic light sticks, and the dynamic fandom culture surrounding them. Students in the class utilize these invaluable collection materials to 3D print their own custom fan merchandise as part of their assignments. The K-pop collection is currently exhibited at the Yenching Library and is also readily accessible via the university’s online library catalog.
