G-Dragon (Kwon Ji-yong), the globally renowned singer and visiting professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), delivered an inspiring message to graduates at the 2026 KAIST commencement ceremony.
On February 20th, G-Dragon encouraged the graduating class as they embark on their journey into the world, in a video address at the ‘2026 Commencement Ceremony’ held at the KAIST main campus in Daejeon. The event was also attended by President Lee Jae-myung and his wife, Kim Hye-kyung.
In his congratulatory speech, G-Dragon began, “Congratulations. Truly, congratulations. You have done it, and you are the people who will continue to do it.” He continued, “Now you are stepping into a world without right answers. It’s okay to be wrong, as long as you don’t stop. Have the courage to choose a path different from others. That courage will ultimately take you the furthest. Start freely today,” emphasizing the courage to not fear failure. G-Dragon’s connection with KAIST dates back to June 2024. At the time, KAIST appointed G-Dragon as a visiting professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, stating its intention to “expand the global competitiveness of Korean culture by incorporating the latest science and technology into K-content and the cultural industry,” which garnered significant attention. Since his appointment, G-Dragon has gone beyond the role of a simple public relations ambassador and has continued to take practical steps.
