Um Jiyoung, the vocalist of the band Big Picture (Keungrim), has issued an apology after her rendition of the national anthem at a professional baseball game sparked controversy due to excessive vocal techniques.
Um Jiyoung posted her apology on Big Picture’s official social media channel on May 17th.
In her statement, Um Jiyoung said, “My thoughts and abilities were greatly lacking while preparing the national anthem. It was a truly significant and thrilling stage for me, and I sincerely apologize if I caused any inconvenience to the NC team and its fans.”
She continued, “I am grateful for all the critical comments and supportive direct messages. I promise to work harder with a humbler attitude to present better performances. Above all, I once again bow my head and sincerely apologize to everyone who was displeased by my national anthem performance.”
Um Jiyoung performed the national anthem before the 2026 KBO League game between the Kiwoom Heroes and NC Dinos at Changwon NC Park on May 17th. However, her performance, characterized by somewhat overly artistic flourishes and ad-libs, quickly became a topic of debate.
