BTS’s V recently garnered significant fan attention by immediately responding to a shoutout from acclaimed rapper Drake.
On the 15th, V uploaded a video to his Instagram Story featuring himself and fellow member J-Hope listening to Drake’s new song. As they were dancing to “Make Them Cry,” they instantly froze and exchanged surprised glances when the lyrics “BTS” were mentioned.
Drake’s 9th studio album, ‘Iceman,’ features the lyric “I’m feeling like BTS ’cause it took the whole career for me to be so discovered” in its first track, “Make Them Cry.” Through this specific lyric, Drake drew a comparison between his own journey to widespread fame and the global phenomenon that is BTS.
Drake, who has long maintained his position as one of the world’s top rappers, likening his illustrious career to that of BTS highlights the immense global stature and influence BTS commands within the popular music industry worldwide.
BTS first had the opportunity to meet Drake at the 2019 Billboard Music Awards. In a 2019 interview with Rolling Stone, J-Hope openly named Drake as his dream collaboration partner. RM echoed this sentiment, stating, “Drake is truly like a final goal for us. Since we met at the Grammys, Drake, if you have time, please contact our agency.” Drake’s recent shoutout has naturally heightened fan expectations and speculation for a potential future collaboration between these global music icons.
