Rosé of BLACKPINK made history as the first K-pop artist to win an award at the prestigious BRIT Awards.
The 46th BRIT Awards ceremony was held at the Co-op Live in Manchester, UK, on March 1st at 5 AM KST.
Rosé took home the trophy for ‘International Song of the Year’ with her song “APT.” (APT.).
This win is particularly significant as Rosé is the first K-pop artist to achieve this milestone. She is also the only K-pop artist to be nominated twice at the BRIT Awards, both as a member of BLACKPINK and as a solo artist.
In her acceptance speech, a surprised Rosé exclaimed, “Oh my god!” She continued, “It’s such an honor and I’m so grateful to receive this award in front of such talented and respected musicians in the UK.” Rosé added, “There are so many people I want to thank. First, Bruno, thank you for being my biggest mentor and my best friend. I love you so much.”
She also expressed her gratitude to her group, saying, “I also want to thank BLACKPINK. Thank you for always inspiring me,” and listed the names of her fellow members.
Notably, “Golden,” the theme song for the Netflix original series ‘K-Pop Demon Hunters,’ was also nominated for ‘International Song of the Year’ alongside Rosé’s “APT.,” but did not win. The song was also nominated for ‘International Group of the Year’ but ultimately went home empty-handed.
However, at the awards ceremony, Lee Jae, Audrey Nuna, and Ray Amy performed “Golden,” attracting significant attention. This marked the first time a K-pop artist has performed on the BRIT Awards stage.
The BRIT Awards, organized by the British Phonographic Industry, is the most prestigious popular music awards ceremony in the UK. It has been held annually since 1982, following its inaugural event in 1977.
