TOP officially released his first solo full-length album, titled ‘ANOTHER DIMENSION,’ on April 3rd at 6 PM KST across all major online music platforms. The release sparked immediate excitement, which was further amplified by his fellow Big Bang members. Taeyang was among the first to post about TOP’s new song, followed by G-Dragon, who also shared promotional content on his personal account. Notably, the image G-Dragon uploaded featured the time ‘8:19,’ leading to widespread speculation among fans that this subtly referenced Big Bang’s debut date of August 19th, thus fueling renewed discussions and anticipation for a potential Big Bang reunion.
Following suit, Daesung also captivated fans by sharing a similar promotional post for TOP’s solo debut.
Even before these direct promotional posts, Big Bang’s G-Dragon and Taeyang had already demonstrated their solidarity by liking social media posts discussing TOP’s solo comeback. This collective show of support vividly highlights the enduring bond and loyalty within the iconic Big Bang group.
Delving into TOP’s First Solo Full-Length Album: ‘ANOTHER DIMENSION’
This groundbreaking new album marks TOP’s inaugural full-length release in approximately 20 years since his debut in 2006. TOP took a hands-on approach, directly participating in the entire production process. According to the official tracklist, ‘ANOTHER DIMENSION’ proudly features “Totally Insane! (Studio54)” and “DESPERADO” as its powerful double title tracks.
The album boasts a diverse and meticulously crafted tracklist, beginning with the compelling opening track “SELF CRUCIFIXION.” Other standout songs include “THE GIANT,” “OVAYA (A SMALL, FILTHY SHOW WINDOW),” “ZERO-COKE,” “Another Dimension Holy Dude !!!!!!!!!!,” “SEOUL CHAOS,” the fan-dedicated track “FOR FANS,” “After the Play Ends,” and the impactful concluding song, “BE SOLID.”
A remarkable aspect of this album is the involvement of acclaimed engineer IRKO, celebrated for his collaborations with global pop icons such as Kanye West and The Weeknd. IRKO was responsible for the sound design and mixing across all tracks. Furthermore, the legendary American layout artist and living master painter Ed Ruscha, alongside Chae Kyung-sun, the esteemed art director behind the Netflix series ‘Squid Game,’ contributed to the album’s comprehensive design and served as the overall art director for the music video, ensuring a visually stunning experience.
TOP’s Journey: From Past Controversies to a Resurgent Comeback
TOP’s journey has not been without challenges. After enlisting as a conscripted policeman in February 2017, he was later indicted for charges of marijuana use that surfaced during his military service. He received a 10-month prison sentence, suspended for two years. Subsequently, his position as a conscripted policeman was revoked, and he completed his alternative military service as a public service worker. In 2019, responding to a netizen’s comment on his personal social media urging him to “reflect instead of returning,” TOP publicly expressed his intention not to return to the industry, stating, “I have no intention of returning.” He also clarified at the time, “I have already left Big Bang.”
However, TOP marked his significant return to the entertainment industry by appearing in ‘Squid Game 2,’ which premiered in 2024. Following this high-profile acting role, he addressed and apologized for the various controversies surrounding him in subsequent interviews. With the triumphant release of his solo album, ‘ANOTHER DIMENSION,’ TOP has now officially resumed his primary career as a musician, eagerly embraced by fans worldwide.
