K-pop sensation BABYMONSTER is ready to captivate global audiences as they lift the veil on their highly anticipated 3rd mini-album, ‘CHOOM’.

Released on May 4th at 6 PM KST, this dynamic new album features a total of four tracks, including the title song ‘CHOOM’, alongside ‘MOON’, ‘I LIKE IT’, and ‘LOCKED IN’. BABYMONSTER skillfully blends genres like hip-hop, dance, and R&B, showcasing their unique charm and a more defined musical identity than ever before.

With both the album title and its lead single prominently featuring ‘CHOOM’ (meaning ‘dance’), the YG Entertainment group declares their ambition to turn the entire world into one massive “dance party” with this comeback.

Q. This marks your comeback after approximately seven months since your 2nd mini-album, [WE GO UP]. How do you feel about its release?

Pharita: “First and foremost, I feel immense gratitude towards our fans. I’m eager to share the wonderful songs from our new album and hope everyone looks forward to a more mature and evolved BABYMONSTER.”

Ahyeon: “I’ve been so excited to make this comeback and reunite with our MONSTIEZ (fandom name) who have been waiting for us. Most of all, I’m thrilled to present an album full of new charms.”

Chiquita: “I’m so happy that we can finally show our fans the results of all our hard work. I’ve been giving my best every day, just wanting to see our fans enjoy it.”

Q. What charms does the title track ‘CHOOM’ hold?

Chiquita: “The most captivating aspect is its energetic and highly addictive sound. While we’ve previously showcased hip-hop-based music that highlights our intense charisma, this time, it’s literally a song everyone can dance to joyfully. Personally, I think the chorus, where the beat dramatically shifts, is the killing part. I hope everyone pays close attention to it.”

Q. What kind of feedback do you hope listeners leave after hearing ‘CHOOM’?

Ruka: “I hope that as listeners hear the song, they naturally become curious about the stage performance. ‘CHOOM’ is a track that gains even more energy when paired with its choreography. Both the song and the dance feel hip, yet with added depth compared to our previous work. I believe we can show a different kind of charm from our existing performances.”

Asa: “Just like us, I hope listeners feel their bodies instinctively react to the song the moment they hear it. The melody is powerful, and our passion and confidence shine through in the lyrics. If this message is conveyed well and makes everyone feel excited and want to join in the fun, I would be incredibly happy.”

Q. Given the album and title track name, music fans have particularly high expectations for the performance.

Chiquita: “This performance, overall, features more powerful and detailed choreography. The formations are freer than before, and the varied configurations will make it even more enjoyable to watch. The chorus has easy-to-follow yet impactful moves, so I hope many people enjoy dancing along with us.”

Q. You’ve been praised by music fans as a group that excels in live performances. You must have put a lot of thought into the stages for this comeback.

Asa: “First, I’m truly grateful that so many people appreciate our stages. I believe it’s thanks to the continuous efforts of all the members. We put even more effort into the performance for this title track. We want to express it more dynamically on stage and deliver a high-quality performance by perfectly synchronizing with each other.”

Q. The ‘WE GO UP’ music video for your second mini-album was praised for its sci-fi film-like visuals. What kind of visuals can we expect from this music video?

Asa: “The mugshot images released in the teaser might be a hint. We tried an image transformation through this music video, featuring unique characters for each member and an exciting storyline, so you can definitely look forward to it. It will be even more fun if you pay attention to the details, like our subtle facial expressions.”

Ruka: “There’s a scene in the music video where we all dance outdoors. We performed intensely on a wet surface, which was a new and fun experience throughout the shoot. Most importantly, I think that scene turned out incredibly cool, so I hope fans will keep an eye out for it.”

Q. What is the most important keyword for this album?

Ruka: “‘Dance Party.’ [CHOOM] embodies our strong ambition to turn the entire world into one massive ‘dance party’ with our unique music and performances. From the intense, hip title track that awakens your dance instincts to the sensuous slow songs, it’s a diverse album that will lift your spirits whenever you listen to it.”

Asa: “Since it evenly features hip-hop, dance, and R&B genres, I’d say ‘Diversity.’ Preparing this album made me realize even more deeply that each genre requires a different approach to expression. We focused on researching suitable tones and emotions for each song and delivering them naturally, so you can really look forward to it.”

Ahyeon: “I think it’s ‘Coolness’ or ‘Swagger.’ Just like the title [CHOOM], I hope this album becomes one where the music and performance itself elicit gasps of ‘That’s so cool!’ from anyone. You can feel our confident attitude and self-assurance throughout every track.”

Q. Can you describe the B-side tracks ‘MOON’, ‘I LIKE IT’, and ‘LOCKED IN’?

Rora: “‘MOON’ is a track with a dreamy and mysterious charm, just like its title. It would be great to listen to it in a calm atmosphere, perhaps when preparing for sleep or during a late-night drive. Our unique vocal tones, which fans love, are particularly well-showcased in this song, so I’m excited for the reactions.”

Ruka: “When I first heard ‘I LIKE IT,’ I immediately imagined jumping and having fun with our fans at a concert. It’s such an exciting song that lifts your spirits whenever you listen to it. I highly recommend listening to it during your workouts.”

Pharita: “‘LOCKED IN’ is a soft and sweet-sounding track. I especially recommend it because I feel the members’ vocals and rap harmonize really beautifully. Listening to it when you wake up in the morning would be a lovely way to start your day.”

Q. What are your plans or goals for this comeback?

Rora: “We want to greet everyone with more active promotions. We aim to perform on various stages, showcase our new music and performances to many people, and capture BABYMONSTER’s honest and cheerful sides off-stage through diverse content. We appeared in various content before our comeback, and we were happy that many people enjoyed it. We have much more to show, so please look forward to it.”

Q. You’re also embarking on your second world tour in June. The scale of this tour has expanded significantly compared to the last. What are your aspirations or mindset for the performances?

Pharita: “We are preparing diligently. Having learned and gained so much from our first world tour, we want to create even better stages. Especially, this world tour has stages we haven’t shown before, so you can definitely anticipate them.”

Ahyeon: “I’m grateful that we get to meet fans in person in even more regions. Through this comeback and world tour, I want to create happy memories that we can always look back on. We will practice hard and wait for our fans, so our sincerity can be conveyed on stage.”

Rora: “During our first world tour, my main focus was ‘to show what we prepared well.’ Now, I can concentrate on how to make the audience enjoy themselves even more on stage. Since our fans have such high expectations, I want to give them unforgettable memories.”

Chiquita: “I want to show a more grown-up version of ourselves compared to last year. This tour allows us to meet fans in even more diverse locations, and these in-person moments are truly precious to us. Thinking of those moments makes us prepare even harder.”

Q. Do you have a message for MONSTIEZ around the world who have waited for this album?

Pharita: “Thanks to MONSTIEZ’s support, we were able to prepare for this comeback with strength and dedication. Now, we will return that heartfelt sentiment.”

Ahyeon: “At the end of every goal BABYMONSTER has, our fans are there, enabling us to keep running forward. We want to be loved by our fans for a long time and repay that love even more greatly. Our official debut’s second anniversary was recently, and just like before, we always want to be a group where our fans are the top priority. Please show a lot of interest in [CHOOM].”

Rora: “I spend my days thinking about our fans enjoying, being comforted, and finding happiness through our music. We want to bring you happiness through this comeback as well. Thank you for always being our greatest strength. We will never forget that and will always show you our continuously improving selves.”
