Busan, South Korea – The Ministry of Finance and Economy has announced a stern response to reports of **excessive hotel overcharging** in the southeastern port city. This declaration came during a recent task force meeting with various ministries, addressing widespread concerns about **Busan hotels** exploiting visitors ahead of a highly anticipated **K-Pop concert** scheduled for next month.
“During the intensive meeting, participants formulated concrete strategies to eradicate **unfair hotel practices**, including arbitrary **reservation cancellations**, imposing **excessive prices**, and failing to honor **posted rates**,” the ministry stated in an official release.
To mitigate the impact of inflated prices, the government plans to secure **alternative accommodations** in surrounding cities. This initiative involves leveraging facilities such as universities, religious centers, and public dormitories to provide **budget-friendly or free stays** for concertgoers. Details regarding these affordable options will be prominently featured on **Busan’s official tourism website**.
Early June will see a joint **government investigation team**, comprising officials from the antitrust watchdog and the tax agency, launch **on-site inspections** across **Busan hotels**. Their mandate is to vigorously address **excessive price hikes**. Detected violations could lead to severe penalties, including the **suspension of business operations**.
Concurrently, the **Busan city government** will conduct its own **inspections at key tourist spots** throughout the city to ensure fair practices are maintained.
The finance ministry strongly advises **travelers** to promptly **report unfair booking cancellations** or any **unreasonable additional charges** levied by **Busan accommodations** directly to the authorities.
The much-anticipated K-Pop group is slated to perform in Busan on **June 12-13**.
President Lee Jae Myung recently issued a stark warning, emphasizing that such instances of **hotel overcharging** would “significantly damage the overall **image of Busan** as a premier tourist destination.”
