Global K-pop sensation BTS is set to compete for the prestigious Artist of the Year award at this year’s American Music Awards (AMAs), marking one of three major nominations for the septet. They will go head-to-head with international music giants such as Bad Bunny, Bruno Mars, and Taylor Swift in the flagship category.
The highly anticipated ceremony at the MGM Grand Garden Arena will see BTS returning to the AMAs stage for the first time in five years, following their last appearance in 2021.
Beyond the top honor, BTS has also garnered nominations for Best Male K-pop Artist and Song of the Summer for their track “Swim,” the compelling lead single from their acclaimed fifth studio album, “Arirang.”
Securing the Artist of the Year award would signify BTS’s second grand prize at the AMAs. In 2021, the group etched their name in history as the first Asian act ever to win the top award, clinching three trophies including Favorite Duo or Group and Favorite Pop Song for their global smash hit “Butter.”
Nominees for the 2026 AMAs were meticulously selected based on comprehensive data, including streaming figures, album and digital sales, radio airplay performance, and touring revenue. The ultimate winners, however, will be determined exclusively by passionate fan votes.
Adding to the K-pop excitement, “Dracula” (remix), a unique collaboration between BLACKPINK member Jennie and Australian music act Tame Impala, has also earned a nomination for Song of the Summer.
U.S.-based K-pop girl group Katseye has made a significant impact, securing three nominations including New Artist of the Year and Breakthrough Pop Artist. Their popular track “Gnarly” is also a strong contender for Best Music Video.
The animated Netflix film “KPop Demon Hunters” has received recognition with a nomination for Best Soundtrack, while “Golden,” performed by its fictional girl group Huntrix, was shortlisted for Best Pop Song, highlighting the growing influence of K-pop in diverse media.
In the highly competitive Best Male K-pop Artist category, BTS is nominated alongside fellow powerhouse groups Ateez, Enhypen, Stray Kids, and Tomorrow X Together. The Best Female K-pop Artist category features an impressive lineup including aespa, BLACKPINK, ILLIT, Le Sserafim, and TWICE, showcasing the vibrant talent within the genre.
