BTS is gearing up for the release of their fifth LP, “Arirang,” with an animated video inspired by the iconic Korean folk song. The trailer offers a glimpse into the album’s themes and BTS’ dedication to sharing Korean culture globally.
The animated video opens in 1896, depicting seven young men captivated by the sound of “Arirang” played on a phonograph. “Arirang,” a beloved and historically significant Korean folk song, sets the stage for a journey through time and across continents.
The narrative follows these characters as they embark on a voyage across the Pacific, bringing the music of “Arirang” to foreign lands and audiences. This historical journey seamlessly transitions into the present day, showcasing BTS performing with their signature energy and charisma under a sea of purple lights, the color synonymous with the BTS ARMY.
The animation culminates with BTS standing proudly in front of Gwanghwamun Square, symbolizing their significant role in spreading messages of hope and comfort through their music to a global audience. This powerful image reinforces their commitment to bridging cultures and connecting with fans worldwide.
Big Hit Music shared that the animated video draws inspiration from historical records indicating that “Arirang” was first recorded in Washington in 1896. The agency emphasized that this project aims to educate and engage a global audience with the history and cultural importance of “Arirang,” while highlighting BTS’ ongoing efforts to promote Korean heritage.
“We wanted to share the story behind ‘Arirang’ with those who may not be familiar with the song,” Big Hit Music stated in a press release. “We hope more people will look up its lyrics and connect with the uniquely Korean emotions embedded in the music.”

In addition to the animated trailer, BTS unveiled the first group photo for the highly anticipated “Arirang” album. The members are seen sporting sophisticated suits that echo the attire of the figures depicted in the animated short, hinting at the album’s overarching themes and aesthetic.
The release of BTS’ fifth LP, “Arirang,” is scheduled for March 20th at 1 p.m. KST. The album, featuring the creative direction of Hybe Chairman Bang Si-hyuk and collaborations with renowned producers like Diplo and Ryan Tedder, promises 14 tracks that Big Hit Music describes as the ultimate representation of BTS’ unique musical identity. Fans can expect a blend of familiar sounds and new sonic explorations.
Adding to the excitement, BTS will host a comeback event at Gwanghwamun Square in central Seoul on the following day. This performance marks the group’s first live appearance since their hiatus for military service. The event will be livestreamed globally, exclusively on Netflix, marking the platform’s first-ever live broadcast of a single act’s concert, making it a must-watch event for ARMYs worldwide.
