Twice Jeongyeon: Agency Talks with Byeon Woo-seok's Company

Twice’s Jeongyeon Reportedly Discussing Solo Acting Debut with Varo Entertainment Amidst Group Contract Renewal Cycle

Jeongyeon of Twice (JYP Entertainment)

K-pop sensation Jeongyeon, a beloved member of the globally renowned group Twice, is reportedly engaging in discussions with Varo Entertainment. This agency, home to rising star Byeon Woo-seok and Jeongyeon’s own sister, acclaimed actress Gong Seung-yeon, is a potential partner as the Twice singer gears up for her anticipated big-screen acting debut.

Recent local media reports on Wednesday indicate that Jeongyeon participated in a private meeting with Varo Entertainment, focusing on potential acting opportunities and future career paths. While an official from Varo Entertainment confirmed the meeting took place, they emphasized that no definitive decision has been reached concerning an exclusive management contract.

“It is true that we met with Jeongyeon,” the official was quoted as stating. “However, nothing has been finalized regarding an exclusive contract at this time.”

Further fueling speculation, Jeongyeon is already confirmed to make her much-anticipated film debut in “New Recruit: The Movie.” This feature film adaptation of the popular ENA TV series “New Recruit” is slated for release in the latter half of this year and will mark the Twice member’s first screen appearance in ten years. She is slated to portray a military nurse officer, showcasing her acting range.

Meanwhile, Jeongyeon’s current agency, JYP Entertainment, addressed the matter by clarifying that these discussions coincide with the ongoing contract renewal period for all Twice members.

In an official statement shared with The Korea Herald, JYP Entertainment affirmed, “Twice is currently in a period of renewal discussions. The company and the members are continuing careful discussions while respecting each other’s wishes. We will provide an update once matters are finalized.”

The K-pop industry frequently sees members of established groups pursue individual endeavors under new agencies while simultaneously maintaining their group activities. However, whether Twice members will adopt this hybrid approach or opt to remain entirely under a single agency for both solo and group promotions remains a key point of ongoing speculation.

Twice, who made their highly successful debut in October 2015, previously renewed their contracts as a complete nine-member ensemble in July 2022, following the completion of their initial seven-year term. While the precise duration of those subsequent contracts was not publicly disclosed, it’s a common industry practice for K-pop idol renewal agreements to span two to three years. This timeframe suggests the group is likely entering another critical period for contract negotiations, influencing both individual member paths and the group’s collective future.
