Teach You a Lesson Tops Netflix Non-English Chart for 2nd Week

The highly anticipated Netflix series “Teach You a Lesson,” released on June 5, has rapidly climbed the charts, amassing 21.1 million views in its recent tracking week. This marks an impressive more than threefold surge from its debut week’s 6.4 million views, signaling significant global traction.

According to Netflix data, the popular show secured the coveted No. 1 position in 46 countries and regions, including key markets such as South Korea, Japan, Thailand, Turkey, and Brazil. Furthermore, “Teach You a Lesson” successfully entered the top 10 in 91 other territories, underscoring its widespread international appeal.

Inspired by the popular webtoon “Get Schooled,” this action-packed Netflix series delves into the operations of the fictional Education Rights Protection Bureau. Led by Education Minister Choi Gang-seok (portrayed by Lee Sung-min), who firmly believes the bureau’s mission is “not to fight students but to fight monsters,” a dedicated team of inspectors embarks on a quest to combat school bullying. The cast features compelling performances by Kim Mu-yeol, Jin Ki-joo, and Pyo Ji-hoon, also widely recognized as P.O from the K-pop sensation Block B.

The compelling narrative of “Teach You a Lesson” addresses school-related crimes through extrajudicial punishments, drawing parallels to real-life incidents. Its fantasy-driven storyline, combined with cathartic performances and thrilling justice-delivering action sequences, has profoundly resonated with a diverse global audience.

Beyond “Teach You a Lesson,” other Korean dramas continue to perform strongly on the platform. “My Royal Nemesis” secured a respectable second place with 2.7 million views, while “The Wonderfools” maintained its presence in the top 10, ranking eighth.

In the English-language film category, the animated feature “KPop Demon Hunters” demonstrated remarkable longevity, extending its chart streak. It claimed the sixth position, marking its 52nd consecutive week in the top 10.

Among non-English movies, “Run to the West,” notable as Korea’s first AI-driven feature film, garnered 1.1 million views, placing it ninth on the chart.

Directed by Kang Yoon-sung, known for “The Roundup” franchise, this action-fantasy film stars Byun Yo-han and Kim Kang-woo. It follows a high-stakes chase where characters find themselves trapped in a mysterious liminal realm between life and death, relentlessly pursued by grim reapers determined to annihilate their souls.
