South Korean broadcaster JTBC has affirmed its commitment to airing all rounds of the ongoing FIFA World Cup without interruption. This declaration on Wednesday aims to dispel recent media reports suggesting potential disruptions amidst a liquidity crisis.
In an official statement, JTBC assured viewers, stating, “We will provide vivid and comprehensive coverage of the World Cup, including all matches featuring the South Korean national team right through to the final stages of the tournament.” The broadcaster urged its audience to disregard “inaccurate information” that might suggest otherwise.
This clarifying statement from JTBC directly addresses a report by Japanese media outlet JNN. The JNN report had raised concerns about potential disruptions to JTBC’s World Cup broadcasts, alleging that the South Korean broadcaster had not yet fully remitted its broadcasting fees to FIFA.
Highlighting its extensive portfolio, JTBC previously secured exclusive broadcasting rights for major international sporting events in South Korea. This includes both the Summer and Winter Olympic Games from 2026 to 2032, and the FIFA World Cup tournaments from 2026 to 2030. Furthermore, in April, JTBC finalized an agreement with public broadcaster KBS for the joint broadcast of the current World Cup, broadening its reach.
