LS Electric Chairman Koo Ja-kyun recently highlighted the profound historical connection between Utah, a pivotal hub for the company’s North American power business expansion, and Korea. He advocated for enhanced community engagement as LS Electric accelerates its strategic push into the competitive US market.
Since the 2022 acquisition of LS Electric Utah in Cedar City, Chairman Koo has personally driven significant capacity expansion initiatives. Simultaneously, he has actively fostered stronger ties with the local community, leveraging their shared historical legacy.
This enduring connection traces back to the Korean War, where 240 Utah soldiers bravely fought in the pivotal Battle of Gapyeong in Gyeonggi Province. They successfully repelled an offensive by approximately 4,000 Chinese troops without a single combat fatality—a remarkable achievement known as the “Miracle at Gapyeong.”
Chairman Koo emphasized that this narrative transcends a mere historical episode; it remains profoundly embedded within the local Utah community where LS Electric Utah proudly operates. Generations of families and descendants of these Korean War veterans continue to honor the memory of the soldiers’ exceptional courage and sacrifice in defending Korea’s freedom.
Earlier this year, LS Electric demonstrated its commitment by sponsoring a comprehensive Korean War veterans support program at Southern Utah University. This initiative covered all expenses, enabling surviving veterans to attend the significant 75th anniversary ceremony commemorating the Battle of Gapyeong, held in Korea this past May.
Furthermore, the company consistently contributes to the ongoing maintenance and preservation of the Korean War Memorial Park situated in Cedar City.
“The noble sacrifice made by Utah veterans for freedom and peace fundamentally established the strong presence our company enjoys in the US market today,” Chairman Koo stated.
“Honoring the memory of the heroes from the Miracle at Gapyeong is a responsibility we deeply embrace. We believe that a business built upon such profound trust and shared values will undoubtedly achieve sustainable long-term growth,” he added.
