Leading South Korean chipmaker SK hynix Inc. is actively exploring a broader integration of cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI) technologies to revolutionize its core work processes. This strategic initiative, revealed by industry sources on Friday, mirrors a similar ambitious move recently announced by fierce competitor Samsung Electronics Co.

During a pivotal company meeting held on Thursday, SK hynix Chief Executive Officer Kwak Noh-jung articulated the firm’s strategic focus: achieving a critical balance between safeguarding proprietary industrial technologies and significantly expanding the internal utilization of AI. He confirmed that the company is diligently reviewing the potential introduction of advanced external generative AI models into its operational framework.

CEO Kwak Noh-jung specifically mentioned, “We are considering the adoption of leading platforms like Microsoft 365 and CoPilot. Furthermore, we are thoroughly evaluating the secure and architecturally sound integration of ChatGPT within the company, taking into account robust security protocols and system compatibility.”

He further elaborated on SK hynix’s rollout strategy, stating that the company intends to progressively introduce external AI services. Initially, these will be deployed in areas not directly tied to core technological intellectual property, with plans to systematically broaden their application across the organization over time.

Currently, SK hynix effectively leverages an in-house AI service built upon robust open-source generative AI models, demonstrating its existing commitment to AI innovation.

Through the strategic introduction of diverse external generative AI platforms, the company aims to empower its employees with access to a significantly wider spectrum of AI models, fostering enhanced productivity and innovation.

Earlier in the week, industry giant Samsung had already unveiled its comprehensive plans to fundamentally transform its operational workflows and corporate ethos. This ambitious transformation involves the full-scale integration of external AI capabilities across all facets of its business, underscoring a significant industry trend.
