Hyundai Motor Group proudly announced on Thursday that its HTWO Guangzhou plant, a pioneering overseas production base for hydrogen fuel cell systems, has been officially recognized as a leading enterprise within Guangzhou’s ambitious initiative to cultivate China’s robust hydrogen industry ecosystem.
The Guangzhou Municipal Bureau of Industry and Information Technology bestowed the prestigious designation of “leading enterprise in the hydrogen energy industrial chain” upon HTWO Guangzhou. This recognition aligns with the city’s comprehensive strategy to advance new energy and energy storage industries across the region.
Guangzhou is actively fostering industrial leaders across 14 pivotal strategic sectors, encompassing cutting-edge fields such as smart mobility, artificial intelligence (AI), semiconductors, aerospace technology, and biotechnology, demonstrating the significance of this accolade.
Hyundai Motor Group emphasized that HTWO Guangzhou earned this distinguished recognition due to its outstanding technological competitiveness and substantial contributions to China’s burgeoning hydrogen ecosystem. Notably, HTWO Guangzhou stands as the sole foreign-invested firm among the 96 companies selected, underscoring Hyundai’s advanced hydrogen technology capabilities and its expanding, crucial role in China’s clean energy transition efforts.
This strategic designation is poised to significantly bolster HTWO Guangzhou’s influence across hydrogen supply chains, regional industrial ecosystems, and core technology partnerships. Furthermore, the company is set to benefit from a range of policy incentives and robust governmental support, accelerating its impact.
Moreover, HTWO Guangzhou will gain direct and indirect participation in critical government discussions concerning hydrogen policy, industrial planning, and major national projects. The enterprise is also anticipated to receive substantial state backing for innovation-focused research and development (R&D) initiatives and valuable industry-academia collaborations.
China has been aggressively accelerating its development in the hydrogen industry, integral to its overarching carbon neutrality and energy transition goals. In 2022, Beijing unveiled its foundational mid- to long-term hydrogen industry development plan for 2021-2035, firmly positioning hydrogen as a key pillar of the nation’s future energy system.
Within this dynamic landscape, HTWO Guangzhou has rapidly emerged as a notable and influential player in China’s hydrogen commercial vehicle market. The company successfully sold over 900 hydrogen commercial vehicles last year, securing the third overall ranking in China and the top position among all foreign companies operating in the sector.
“HTWO Guangzhou is committed to expanding cooperation with local governments and strategic partners while actively participating in China’s upcoming hydrogen energy demonstration projects, which are slated to commence later this year,” stated Choi Doo-ha, general manager of HTWO Guangzhou, outlining future strategic directions.
