Musinsa Q1 Record: Stores, Exports Drive Growth
(Musinsa)

Leading Korean fashion e-commerce platform, Musinsa, announced record-breaking first-quarter sales, successfully overcoming the fashion industry’s typical seasonal slowdown. This impressive performance was fueled by robust expansion across its online platform businesses and strategic growth in its offline retail operations.

For the January-March period, Musinsa reported consolidated sales of 363.6 billion won ($242 million), marking a substantial 24.1 percent increase from the previous year. The company’s operating profit also saw a healthy rise of 8.2 percent, reaching 19 billion won.

On a stand-alone basis, Musinsa demonstrated equally strong financial health, with sales climbing approximately 25 percent to 335 billion won. Operating profit experienced an even more significant surge, jumping 45.5 percent to 27.5 billion won.

Musinsa attributed this exceptional growth to consistently expanding transaction volumes across its diverse online platform businesses. This was further complemented by remarkable performance from its offline stores, strategically located in major shopping districts such as Myeong-dong and Seongsu.

Sales at Musinsa Standard offline stores experienced an outstanding 86 percent year-on-year surge during the quarter. This growth was supported by a nearly doubled customer traffic, attracting an impressive 9.23 million visitors nationwide.

Between January and March, Musinsa aggressively expanded its physical footprint by opening four new Musinsa Standard stores. These new locations include One Grove, Starfield Village Unjeong, Hyundai Department Store Mokdong, and Shinsegae Premium Outlet Paju.

Further marking a significant international milestone, March also saw the grand opening of Musinsa’s first China store, Musinsa Standard Shanghai New World City. This move underscores the company’s dedicated efforts to expand its overseas customer base and global presence.

The global store division showcased robust performance, with gross merchandise volume (GMV) increasing by over 48 percent year-on-year in the first quarter. This surge was significantly driven by burgeoning overseas demand for popular Korean fashion and beauty products.

Reinforcing its international appeal, foreign customers contributed approximately 44 percent of sales at Musinsa Standard’s five flagship stores situated in prime commercial districts: Myeong-dong, Seomyeon, Seongsu, Hannam, and Hongdae.

Exports witnessed an extraordinary surge, increasing nearly 11.9 times from a year earlier to reach 15.3 billion won within the quarter. This remarkable growth propelled exports to account for 4.2 percent of total quarterly sales, a substantial jump from 0.44 percent in the prior year.

A Musinsa official highlighted that newly inaugurated offline retail spaces, coupled with integrated online-to-offline (O2O) marketing strategies, were key contributors to the company’s impressive growth trajectory.

Looking ahead, Musinsa affirmed its commitment to fostering the global expansion of its partner brands and continuously enhancing the overall customer shopping experience across all touchpoints.
