Streaming Giant Highlights Fan Engagement Strategy Ahead of Le Sserafim’s Exclusive ‘Pure Flowers Live’ Showcase in Seoul

Spotify outlined its vision for expanding music experiences beyond streaming platforms into offline fan engagement during a press meeting held at Spotify Korea’s office in Seoul on Thursday, ahead of an exclusive live event with K-pop sensation Le Sserafim.

John Han, head of music at Spotify Korea, articulated the company’s objective to connect artists and fans through both online and offline experiences, emphasizing this as a core component of Spotify’s long-term global strategy for Korean music.

“Our mission is always, how do we best connect artists to fans? There’s no better way than to connect them in real life,” Han stated during the briefing.

“I think it’s better to combine the offline and online experiences together. They don’t just separately play as a strategy,” he added, highlighting the integrated approach.

Spotify has increasingly focused on curating immersive music experiences that commence offline and seamlessly extend digitally through Spotify’s robust platform. This strategy allows fans worldwide to relive exclusive performances through engaging video content and podcasts, fostering deeper connections with their favorite K-pop and Korean artists.

Delving into the company’s broader vision, Han noted Spotify’s conviction in K-pop’s global potential long before the genre achieved its mainstream worldwide status. He underscored this commitment by referencing the launch of Spotify’s first flagship K-pop playlist in 2014 — predating the streaming service’s official entry into Korea.

“K-pop is no longer a niche genre. It’s become a major cultural force in the global music industry,” Han affirmed.

According to Han, Spotify significantly expanded its K-pop initiatives between 2015 and 2016. This expansion included launching a dedicated K-pop genre hub and introducing numerous playlists meticulously tailored to various moods, styles, and eras. Beyond playlists, Spotify broadened its support through extensive artist campaigns, live experiences, and offline fan events across Asia, cementing its role in promoting Korean music.

Han highlighted Spotify’s “Spotify On Stage” concert series as a prime example of how the platform transforms music discovery into tangible, real-life fan experiences. He cited memorable performances by I-dle and Ateez at Spotify On Stage Jakarta in 2019, alongside Stray Kids’ impactful show at Spotify On Stage Bangkok, demonstrating the program’s reach and success.

“What’s especially meaningful is that many of these artists were still very early in their careers at the time,” Han remarked. “So it really reflects Spotify’s belief in supporting emerging talent, early on.”

Han further stressed that Spotify’s strategic focus extends beyond the K-pop genre to encompass Korean music as a whole, including vibrant hip-hop and indie artists. He confirmed the company’s ongoing commitment to investing in broader Korean music initiatives and fostering diverse musical talent.

Spotify’s editorial strategy has been instrumental in exposing a wider global audience to Korean artists. This is achieved by strategically placing K-pop acts alongside established global artists in popular playlists that span diverse genres such as pop, R&B, and dance music, ensuring cross-genre discovery.

According to Han, annual global K-pop streams on Spotify in 2025 were an astounding 570 times higher than they were in 2014, showcasing the exponential growth and global appeal of the genre on the platform.

Later that evening, Spotify hosted the highly anticipated exclusive premiere stage, “Pure Flowers Live,” featuring Le Sserafim at the historic Seosomun Shrine History Museum in Seoul. This event successfully extended the live fan experience through Spotify’s digital platform. The showcase celebrated the release of Le Sserafim’s second full-length album, “Pureflow Pt.1,” and served as a heartfelt thank you to fans for their unwavering support.

Approximately 300 devoted fans attending the exclusive showcase were treated to live performances of new tracks including “Boompala,” “Creature,” and “Sonder,” a full day ahead of their official digital release, creating an unforgettable experience.

Spotify plans to release full performance videos of the “Pure Flowers Live” event globally through its platform. Additionally, a special talk session featuring candid conversations with the singers during the show will be released as part of Spotify’s popular video podcast content series, “K-Pop On! Video Podcast,” further enhancing fan engagement.
