El Paso County Celebrates BTS: Honoring Economic Impact and Vibrant Fan Engagement
El Paso County, Texas, recently bestowed a prestigious award upon K-pop global superstars BTS, acknowledging the group’s significant impact on local tourism and fostering vibrant community engagement.
Big Hit Music confirmed that the Commissioners Court of El Paso County officially approved a resolution to honor all seven members of BTS with the esteemed “Estimado Amigo” recognition. Furthermore, May 2–3 has been proclaimed “El Paso BTS Weekend,” strategically coinciding with the highly anticipated BTS concerts scheduled in the city.
El Paso County specifically credited the K-pop group for significantly boosting local tourism, elevating community pride, and successfully spotlighting El Paso as a premier destination for major concerts. The resolution also commended BTS’s music for its powerful promotion of positive social messages and universal public values.
Brooke Underwood, Executive Director at Visit El Paso, the county’s official tourism office, provided an impressive estimate: the two highly anticipated BTS concerts are projected to generate an astonishing economic impact of approximately $75 million for the region.
Beyond the official recognition, vibrant local fan engagement has played a crucial role in amplifying BTS’s presence. El Paso County specifically highlighted how BTS’s dedicated global fandom, known as ARMY, successfully organized a fundraising campaign to illuminate the city’s iconic “Star on the Mountain” in a distinctive purple hue for seven days, from April 28 to May 4. This follows a previous lighting in red and white back in January, marking the initial announcement of the group’s visit.
The K-pop sensation BTS recently commenced the North American leg of their highly anticipated “Arirang” world tour at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida. Following a series of successful shows in Tampa, the group is now preparing for their historic performances at the renowned Sun Bowl Stadium in El Paso, Texas. This engagement marks a significant milestone, as BTS will be the first Korean act ever to hold a standalone concert at this iconic venue.
