Woori Bank, a prominent South Korean financial institution, announced Thursday the formal signing of a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Viettel, Vietnam’s largest mobile carrier. This significant agreement is set to deepen the existing collaborative ties between the two influential entities, particularly within the rapidly expanding Vietnamese market and beyond.
The pivotal signing ceremony took place on Wednesday in Hanoi, during a high-profile meeting. Representing Woori Bank was its CEO, Jung Jin-wan, who engaged with key officials from Viettel Global, including CEO Nguyen Thi Hoa and Vice President Nguyen Cao Loi. Viettel, a state-owned corporation operating under Vietnam’s Ministry of National Defence, leverages Viettel Global to manage its extensive overseas telecommunications and digital investment businesses.
Under the comprehensive terms of this new agreement, both parties are committed to strengthening their established financial relationship. Furthermore, the partnership will foster expanded strategic cooperation across several crucial areas. This includes the systematic sharing of vital information regarding Viettel’s widespread international operations and the provision of additional financial support to facilitate future investments in new global markets. This collaboration aims to synergize Viettel’s vast network and Woori Bank’s robust financial services capabilities.
The signing event was a key highlight during CEO Jung Jin-wan’s broader visit to Vietnam, where he participated as an integral member of President Lee Jae Myung’s impactful business delegation. During his visit, Jung conducted a detailed review of local financial market conditions and actively explored diverse opportunities to further expand Woori Bank’s overseas business footprint, particularly within the dynamic Southeast Asian region.
“As the primary operator of critical national infrastructure in Vietnam – a nation that stands as Korea’s third-largest trading partner and possesses immense growth potential – Viettel is strategically positioned to become a pivotal new growth driver for Woori Bank’s global business expansion efforts,” stated CEO Jung Jin-wan, emphasizing the far-reaching implications of this strategic partnership.
