Honda Korea announced a significant strategic shift on Thursday, revealing its decision to exit the automobile sales business in the South Korean market by the close of 2026. This move follows a comprehensive strategic review of its operational landscape and market conditions.
The company stated this strategic realignment is driven by a need to reallocate critical management resources towards key priority areas, responding to the evolving global and local market dynamics.
Despite ceasing new car sales, Honda Korea is committed to ensuring a seamless transition for its existing customers. The company will continue to provide robust after-sales services, including essential maintenance, reliable parts supply, and comprehensive warranty support. Collaborating closely with its established dealer network, Honda Korea aims to maintain a stable and dependable service system for all car owners.
Furthermore, Honda Korea emphasized that its thriving motorcycle business will remain a central pillar of its operations in the Korean market. The company plans to significantly strengthen its motorcycle lineup and enhance the overall customer experience for its two-wheel division, focusing on sustained growth.
Lee Ji-hong, chief executive of Honda Korea, underscored the strategic imperative behind this decision. “We concluded that concentrating resources on key areas is essential to securing long-term competitiveness,” Lee stated, citing the pressures of evolving market conditions and fluctuating exchange rates as primary factors influencing the company’s direction.
Lee further reiterated Honda Korea’s unwavering commitment to its customers, promising to provide responsible and continuous after-sales support to minimize any inconvenience stemming from the phased withdrawal of car sales operations.
