SK On Co., the prominent battery manufacturing division of South Korea’s SK Group, announced Tuesday its strategic expansion into Japan with the opening of a new office later this month. This significant move is specifically aimed at exploring and capitalizing on growth opportunities within the burgeoning energy storage system (ESS) sector across the region.
This critical initiative comes as SK On actively seeks to diversify its business portfolio and secure new growth drivers. The company’s focus on ESS solutions is a direct response to a prolonged slowdown in global electric vehicle (EV) demand, prompting a strategic pivot towards broader energy solutions.
A company spokesperson confirmed that the new Tokyo office is in the process of being established. Furthermore, SK On is already engaged in discussions with multiple Japanese companies, exploring potential strategic cooperation not only in advanced EV batteries but also crucially within the rapidly expanding ESS market, signaling a robust commitment to the Japanese energy landscape.
