Woori Bank CEO Jung Jin-wan spearheaded a significant visit to New Delhi on Monday, accompanying President Lee Jae Myung on a pivotal trip to India, the bank confirmed Tuesday. As the sole banking chief present, Mr. Jung’s visit underscores Woori Bank’s deepening strategic commitment to the rapidly expanding Indian market.
During his time in the Indian capital, CEO Jung actively participated in the high-profile Korea-India Business Forum. There, he engaged with key officials from various local companies, facilitating insightful discussions on current market conditions and identifying prospective areas for enhanced bilateral cooperation.
Demonstrating Woori Bank’s commitment to corporate social responsibility, CEO Jung also made a heartwarming visit to Akshya Pratisthan, a local school situated in Gurugram, southwest of New Delhi. At the school, he personally delivered vital donations aimed at supporting children from disadvantaged families, reinforcing community ties.
Woori Bank currently boasts a robust operational footprint in India, with five strategic branches established across major cities such as Chennai, Mumbai, and Gurugram. This extensive presence positions Woori Bank with the second-largest network among all Korean commercial banks operating within the country.
Driven by ambitious growth strategies, Woori Bank is actively pursuing further expansion across India. Signifying this commitment, the bank successfully launched two new branches in Pune and Ahmedabad during 2024, strategically capitalizing on opportunities within one of the globe’s fastest-growing major economies. India’s undeniable allure stems from its massive 1.4 billion population, consistent economic growth hovering around 7 percent, and its established position as the world’s fourth-largest economy.
Reflecting on the productive visit, CEO Jung Jin-wan remarked, “This visit gave us a chance to deepen our understanding of the Indian market and strengthen our local network. We will continue to broaden our global business foundation by building on the trust we have established with local communities in India.”
