Botulinum toxin exports surge as Daewoong expands global training
Daewoong Pharmaceutical is intensifying its strategic efforts to globally expand the reach of Nabota, its high-purity botulinum toxin, capitalizing on the worldwide surge in demand for effective anti-aging treatments.
To fuel this impressive growth, Daewoong Pharmaceutical launched the comprehensive Nabota Master Class in 2023, a specialized training program for overseas medical professionals. This initiative has coincided with remarkable export momentum, as Nabota exports soared to 193 billion won ($131.1 million) last year, representing a near quadrupling of figures since 2021.
Initially hosted in Korea, the highly successful Nabota Master Class program has strategically expanded its global reach, with dedicated sessions now held in key international markets like Argentina and Saudi Arabia to directly address specific regional demand for advanced botulinum toxin treatments.
Reflecting a growing global trend, Brazilian dermatologist Renata Primavera, boasting 24 years of extensive experience, observed during the NMC at Ewha Womans University Seoul Hospital that “more young people are opting for botulinum toxin treatments.”
Dr. Primavera elaborated on the concept of “pre-juvenation,” explaining, “This approach focuses on proactively managing aging to maintain skin health over the long term, rather than merely addressing issues post-occurrence.” She underscored that “this significant shift towards preventive aesthetic care is a global phenomenon, extending far beyond Brazil.”
The most recent Nabota Master Class brought together 74 distinguished medical experts from 13 countries. The program meticulously showcased Nabota’s superior safety and uncompromising quality, facilitating the exchange of valuable clinical cases among participants. Attendees also gained an exclusive, in-depth look at the advanced manufacturing process behind Daewoong’s botulinum toxin products. Crucially, Daewoong Pharmaceutical provided extensive hands-on training, covering diverse Nabota procedures specifically designed to enhance skin lifting, refine skin texture, optimize skin tone, and address pore-related concerns.

Commenting on the practical nature of the training, Dr. Primavera stated, “We weren’t just given a theoretical introduction; we experienced the actual procedure methods firsthand. This provided me with a crucial new vision for enhancing precision in treatments.”
She further emphasized, “It was an incredibly meaningful experience, as we acquired advanced technical expertise that can be immediately applied in our clinical practice.”
Highlighting Nabota’s unique advantages, Dr. Primavera noted its innovative vacuum drying process significantly reduces the occurrence of inactive toxin. She stressed that this advanced manufacturing technique directly contributes to Nabota’s remarkable consistency, superior safety profile, and reliable predictability.
Dr. Primavera then shared a compelling clinical case: her successful treatment of a patient in Brazil suffering from uneven eyebrows following stroke surgery. She explained that while she had previously utilized various botulinum toxins, Nabota consistently demonstrated particularly faster onsets of action.
Citing impressive research, Dr. Primavera revealed, “A Nabota study indicated that approximately 84.5 percent of patients demonstrated observable onsets within just two days of the toxin procedure.” She affirmed, “This particular patient also experienced significant improvement in her uneven eyebrows and associated wrinkles within a remarkably short timeframe.”
Daewoong Pharmaceutical continues its aggressive strategy to expand its botulinum toxin market presence across Latin American countries. Following Nabota’s successful debut in Panama in 2015, the company has now penetrated 17 countries throughout the region, establishing strong footholds in crucial markets like Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Peru, and Chile. A testament to this growth, Daewoong secured a substantial 180-billion-won contract last year for the export of Nabota products specifically to Brazil.
According to Dr. Primavera, Nabota’s market presence is rapidly expanding in Brazil, largely driven by the country’s strong preference for achieving quick and visible results post-procedure. She further highlighted the significant positive impact of the “Korean-made” label on Nabota’s appeal, noting the exceptionally high level of trust in Korean products and the widespread favorable perception of Korea’s advanced skincare and beauty sectors among the Brazilian public.
Reflecting on the collaborative environment, Dr. Primavera shared, “The NMC, by bringing together doctors from diverse cultural backgrounds, provided an invaluable opportunity to broaden my vision through listening to the varied clinical cases and experiences of my peers. I am confident this exchange will empower me to deliver even better results for my patients.”
She concluded with high praise, stating, “I have attended numerous international conferences throughout my career, but this Nabota Master Class stands out as the most exceptionally well-organized program I have ever encountered. It was an incredibly meaningful experience, and I sincerely hope this vital program continues for many years to come.”
