Ex-Super Junior Kangin Releases Comeback Single After 7-Year Hiatus

Former Super Junior Member Kangin Announces Music Comeback with New Digital Single ‘Love Is Pain’

Kangin, the celebrated artist and former member of the popular K-pop group Super Junior, is set to make his highly anticipated return to the music scene. He recently announced the upcoming release of his new digital single, titled “Love Is Pain,” marking a significant moment for the 41-year-old singer.

The exciting news was shared directly with fans via his personal YouTube channel on Monday, where Kangin openly discussed the emotional journey behind his latest musical endeavor. “It’s been a long time since I last greeted you,” Kangin expressed in the video, conveying his deep gratitude for the unwavering support from his fanbase.

Kangin revealed that he had the opportunity to perform “Love Is Pain” for fans during his recent fan meeting tour, which successfully kicked off in the Philippines this year. Despite the song not being fully finalized at the time, the overwhelming positive reception and encouragement from his audience gave him the confidence and courage to move forward with its official release.

“I had many concerns, but thinking of the fans who have waited for me, I decided to release a digital single,” he stated, reiterating his appreciation and pledging to present a renewed and improved version of himself in the future.

Kangin originally debuted with Super Junior in 2005, quickly gaining widespread popularity before facing a series of public controversies that impacted his career. His journey saw a prolonged hiatus from group activities following multiple incidents, including charges related to drunk driving and assault cases.

Key incidents in his past include a 2009 booking for assault following a drunken altercation, and a hit-and-run drunk driving incident later that same year. In 2015, he was charged for failing to attend mandatory reserve forces training. Another drunk driving case in 2016 resulted in a 7 million won (approximately $4,680 in 2026) fine. He was also embroiled in an assault controversy in 2017.

Following these repeated controversies, Kangin officially departed from Super Junior in 2019. After a period dedicated to self-reflection and personal growth, he began to re-engage with the public in 2023, notably through his YouTube channel, as a heartfelt way to reconnect with his dedicated fanbase.

His return to the spotlight has garnered a mixed public reaction. While some critics point to his past misconduct, expressing reservations about his comeback, many long-time fans and supporters believe he has taken sufficient time for reflection and are now eagerly backing his return to music.
