BTS Kicks Off “Arirang” World Tour in Goyang: A Triumphant Return for Fans Worldwide
GOYANG, Gyeonggi Province – The highly anticipated “Arirang” world tour by global K-pop sensation BTS commenced its first leg at Goyang Stadium, marking their first full-group concert in four years. Hours before the iconic septet took the stage, thousands of dedicated fans, known as ARMY, had already converged outside the venue, transforming the rainy grounds into a vibrant hub of excitement and anticipation.
By early Thursday afternoon, the area surrounding the Goyang Stadium was a sea of ARMY — many sporting purple rain jackets and wielding their iconic Army Bomb light sticks — posing for photos in front of a towering world tour poster. Despite the chilly drizzle, the mood remained vibrantly upbeat, with BTS fans smiling, chatting, and eagerly documenting this long-awaited K-pop concert moment.
Global ARMY Gathers for BTS’s Historic Comeback
“I’ve loved BTS since 2014 when I was at a low point in my life,” shared Tricia Shane, a devoted fan from the US. Having traveled to Korea specifically for the concert, she expressed her excitement about seeing BTS as a complete group for the first time since 2019. “I’m looking forward to seeing them perform their newest songs, but also other timeless hits from the past.”
The diverse crowd spanned generations, from fans in their 20s to those in their 50s — a broader age range than typically observed at many K-pop events. Even as the rain continued, many engaged in the familiar pre-concert ritual of exchanging fan-made goods, a testament to the strong community spirit of the BTS fandom.

Outfits worn by attendees cleverly reflected both BTS’ established identity and their latest release. Purple — a color long associated with the group and its dedicated fanbase — dominated the scene, while prominent flashes of red appeared throughout the crowd, referencing a key color from BTS’ recent album, “Arirang.” A noticeable number of fans also wore modernized hanbok, subtly nodding to the album’s incorporation of traditional Korean cultural motifs.
A Dream Realized: First Live Experience for Many
For a significant portion of the audience, this day marked their inaugural experience of seeing the global K-pop phenomenon perform live.
“This concert is a really big deal for me, because I’ve been a fan since the COVID-19 period, so I’ve never seen them perform live in person,” shared Ryoo Jin-soo, a Korean fan. “I’ve really only dreamt of this moment and now that it’s finally reality, I’m really happy and excited to finally see them at Goyang Stadium.”
Beyond the personal excitement of the day, Ryoo also reflected on BTS’ broader cultural influence.
“BTS has truly become a cultural ambassador for Korea, enabling so many people from diverse countries to discover and appreciate Korean culture,” she said. “I feel immense pride that BTS has played such a pivotal role in promoting our country on a global stage.”

International fans constituted a noticeable segment of the crowd, with many having traveled days in advance. Qoid, a dedicated fan from Malaysia who has followed BTS since 2014, expressed that this show would be her first opportunity to witness the group perform as a full unit.
“I’m so happy to finally see all of them together,” she said, visibly emotional. “I’m especially looking forward to hearing them perform ‘Into the Sun.’ When I first listened to it, it was so heartwarming and I’m sure it’s going to make a lot of others cry too.”
Nearby, Korean fan Hong Eu-na, proudly wearing merchandise representing member Suga, expressed her eagerness to observe how the group would return and perform as a complete team after their hiatus.
“It’s been a long time since they’ve come back together, so I think there must be a lot of pressure,” she acknowledged. “I’m really looking forward to seeing their group performance and how they’ve transformed and evolved.”

Massive Attendance and Extensive Safety Measures for the “Arirang” World Tour
The three-day concert series at Goyang Stadium, scheduled for Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday, is expected to draw an impressive 40,000 to 50,000 fans per show, potentially totaling over 120,000 attendees for the opening leg of the BTS world tour.
Local authorities have conducted rigorous joint safety inspections with officials, police, and emergency services, focusing intensively on crowd flow management, clear evacuation routes, and swift on-site response systems. Comprehensive traffic control measures and checks on nearby accommodations have also been meticulously implemented to manage congestion effectively and prevent potential price gouging for this high-demand K-pop event.
Following these monumental Goyang concerts, BTS will continue its expansive “Arirang” world tour across 34 cities globally, including highly anticipated stops in Japan, the US, and Mexico. The group is then set to make a triumphant return to Busan in June to celebrate its 13th anniversary with another special performance.
