K-pop boy band Ampers&One has made a highly anticipated comeback, returning after an eight-month hiatus with a sharpened identity and a clear vision. The septet unveiled its fourth EP, “Definition,” a powerful statement of both artistic direction and future intent for the group.

During a press showcase held at Nodeul Live House in central Seoul, the members — Kamden, Brian, Jiho, Siyun, Kyrell, Mackiah, and Seungmo — highlighted this new release as a pivotal moment. More than just a comeback, “Definition” signifies the beginning of an exciting new chapter for Ampers&One.

This marks the group’s first EP in eight months, showcasing significant growth and creative involvement. Members Mackiah and Kamden notably contributed to the lyric writing for all tracks, ensuring a cohesive and deeply personal message resonates throughout the entire release.

“This album truly feels like a new beginning for Ampers&One,” shared Brian during the event. “Over the past eight months, we’ve gained invaluable stage experience, and we believe that growth is evident in every aspect of this new K-pop release.”

The central theme of the “Definition” EP revolves around self-discovery and defining one’s identity on personal terms, rather than conforming to external pressures. Siyun articulated this, describing the album as a journey of “recognizing that we are the ones who ultimately lift ourselves up, and moving forward with that powerful mindset.”

This profound message is powerfully conveyed through the main track, “God.” This trap-based dance song features captivating ethnic synth sounds and a palpable emotional depth. Cleverly built around the double meaning of “God” and “gat” — a traditional Korean hat — the track expresses a profound desire for resurgence, seeking both strength and protection.

“‘God’ is a song about praying for self-protection and finding the inner will to rise again,” explained Seungmo. “When we first heard it, the unique fusion of Eastern melodies and hip-hop elements felt incredibly fresh. We immediately recognized its potential to help Ampers&One stand out among other K-pop groups, and we were eager to share it with our fans.”

The group’s dedication to distinction extends beyond their music into their captivating performances. The “God” choreography masterfully incorporates elements of traditional Korean dance, characterized by precise, restrained movements and intricate hand gestures, creating a visually stunning experience.

Leader Kamden emphasized the meticulous attention to detail the K-pop group poured into preparing for this comeback.

“Given that this was our first time exploring such a unique concept, we extensively studied traditional Korean dance,” he stated. “We focused on the minutest details in our gestures – from the elegant appearance of our extended arms and hands to the precise amount of strength in each movement – to perfectly embody that distinctive feeling.”

The visual concept further amplifies this unique direction. The Ampers&One members graced the stage in stunning hanbok-inspired suits, adorned with traditional patterns and accessories like “norigae.” This styling beautifully underscores the seamless blend of modern K-pop aesthetics with rich Korean cultural motifs.

Mackiah added that the group immersed themselves in historical dramas and films to fully grasp the mood and movements associated with traditional Korean settings. This effort held particular significance given Ampers&One’s multinational lineup, featuring members from the US, Canada, and Australia, highlighting their commitment to cultural authenticity.

Seungmo affirmed that this cultural diversity ultimately strengthens the K-pop boy band’s unique musical identity.

“As a multinational group, we are fortunate to share and combine various cultural perspectives, which significantly helps us connect with a global audience,” he explained. “Incorporating authentic Korean elements into our work makes what we do feel truly fresh and distinctive.”

Despite the strong stylistic direction showcased in “Definition,” Ampers&One remains mindful not to pigeonhole its identity too narrowly. Kamden described the group’s essence as “multicolored,” a vibrant tapestry woven from the diverse backgrounds and individual strengths of each member.

“Rather than being defined by just one aspect, I believe Ampers&One’s identity stems from all of us bringing our own different colors together,” he articulated. “We are committed to continuously defining ourselves on our own terms, embracing our evolving identity.”

This K-pop comeback arrives amidst increased competition, with numerous artists returning in April. Yet, the members expressed unwavering confidence in their ability to stand out, particularly highlighting the meticulously perfected performance elements of their title track, “God.”

Looking ahead, Ampers&One is set to embark on its highly anticipated first live tour, “Born to Define,” kicking off on May 2nd. The group shared they are preparing intensively for these shows, eager to leave a lasting impression as a powerful live act.

Regarding their overarching goals for this comeback, Brian succinctly summarized their aspiration: a significant shift in perception.

“Through this album, Ampers&One aims to evolve from being recognized as underdogs to becoming definitive K-pop icons,” he concluded.
