Posco Group is significantly advancing its artificial intelligence (AI) transformation strategy by investing 7 billion won ($4.6 million) in Brils, a leading robotics engineering firm renowned for its expertise in advanced automation system design. This strategic move underscores Posco’s commitment to pioneering intelligent factory solutions and industrial automation.
The substantial investment includes 5 billion won from Posco Holdings’ strategic fund, complemented by 2 billion won from its corporate venture capital arm. This collaborative agreement is designed to synergize Posco’s extensive manufacturing expertise with Brils’ cutting-edge capabilities in robotics planning, control, and system integration, paving the way for next-generation industrial applications.
Established in 2015, Brils has emerged as a prominent domestic system integration company, boasting an impressive portfolio of over 110 patents in automation technologies. Its proven track record includes delivering innovative automation solutions to major industry players like Hyundai Motor and SK Ecoplant, with the firm actively pursuing a Kosdaq listing this year.
At the heart of this strategic partnership is the joint development of advanced automation operating systems. This initiative aims to transcend conventional standalone robotics, propelling both companies towards the realization of “intelligent factories” – integrated production environments where human ingenuity, artificial intelligence, and robotic systems seamlessly collaborate.
Posco is committed to deploying customized robotic solutions within its facilities, specifically targeting labor-intensive and high-risk operational processes. This strategic deployment is set to significantly enhance workplace safety while simultaneously boosting overall operational productivity across its industrial footprint.
This investment in Brils forms a crucial component of Posco Group’s broader, long-term strategic push into the rapidly evolving field of robotics. Through its dedicated venture funds and Posco Technical Investment, the group has cumulatively invested 19.3 billion won in pioneering robotics firms, including industry innovators such as Aidin Robotics, Tesollo, Neuromeka, and Persona AI, solidifying its leadership in industrial automation.
Looking ahead, Posco is poised to accelerate its comprehensive AI-driven automation strategy, with a clear vision to expand cutting-edge intelligent factory systems throughout all its manufacturing sites, reinforcing its commitment to future-proof industrial operations.
