SK Networks has appointed former CEO and Chairman Choi Shin-won to the significant advisory role of Honorary Chairman. This strategic decision, aimed at strengthening the company’s long-term vision, was officially approved by the board on Thursday, as confirmed by SK Networks on Friday.
In his new capacity, Honorary Chairman Choi Shin-won will serve as a crucial management mentor, providing expert guidance on mid- to long-term corporate strategy. He will also be instrumental in identifying and fostering synergies across SK Networks’ diverse business units, aiming for enhanced operational efficiency and growth.
Furthermore, Choi Shin-won is expected to play a key role in reinforcing the company’s robust corporate culture, which is deeply rooted in the SK Management System (SKMS). His contributions will also focus on sharing SK Networks’ core values effectively with all employees and external stakeholders, fostering a unified organizational ethos.
Beyond internal strategy, Honorary Chairman Choi Shin-won will actively engage in crucial social contribution activities, extending SK Networks’ commitment to corporate social responsibility both internally and externally. An SK Networks official emphasized, “Choi Shin-won’s leadership will be vital in supporting the company’s innovation efforts and upholding its dedication as a business leader committed to impactful corporate social responsibility initiatives.”
This notable return of Choi Shin-won follows a period of significant personal challenges. In May, the Supreme Court had finalized his conviction for charges including embezzlement and breach of trust, resulting in a prison sentence of two years and six months. However, he subsequently received a pardon in August as part of the National Liberation Day amnesty, paving the way for his re-engagement with the SK Networks leadership.
Choi Shin-won holds a prominent position within the broader SK Group, being a cousin to current SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won. He is also recognized as the second son of the late Choi Jong-gun, the venerable founder of the SK Group, underscoring his deep-seated ties to the conglomerate’s heritage and future.
