Hanwha Defense USA and Hanwha Philly Shipyard have secured their first US Navy project as a subcontractor to Vard Marine US. They will contribute to the Next Generation Logistics Ship Program, focused on developing smaller, more agile vessels for refueling, rearming, and resupplying combat ships, the companies announced Monday.
This marks the first US Navy contract awarded to Hanwha Defense since its inception and Hanwha’s acquisition of the Philly Shipyard. Since acquiring the shipyard in December 2024, Hanwha has invested over $200 million to enhance Philly Shipyard’s workforce, capabilities, and capacity.
South Korea’s Hanwha Group is among a select group of international firms that have pledged to invest in revitalizing US maritime production, a priority identified by President Donald Trump. (Reuters)
