NC AI, the artificial intelligence arm of NCSoft, unveiled its “World Foundation Model” (WFM) on Monday, emphasizing its robust research infrastructure and positioning the technology as a potential “K-World Model” to bolster Korea’s AI ecosystem.
The World Foundation Model (WFM) leverages a streamlined architecture that directly generates actions from latent space information – pre-image processed data. This enhances both efficiency and prediction accuracy in AI applications.
This innovative model tackles the “Sim2Real gap,” a persistent challenge in robotics where systems trained in simulated environments struggle to perform reliably in real-world scenarios. NC AI reports that the WFM exhibits strong predictive capabilities and consistent performance when applied to robotic tasks.
The research also highlighted significant improvements in resource efficiency. Training the WFM required only about 25% of the GPU resources typically consumed by leading AI models, while maintaining high success rates in commercially relevant robotics applications.
To overcome data scarcity in industrial AI training, the system is capable of generating vast quantities of synthetic video data. NC AI stated that the WFM environment can produce approximately 10,000 hours of synthetic video in just 11 days through simple prompt-based commands, significantly reducing the need for expensive real-world data collection.
The company intends to provide domain-specific synthetic data customized for Korean manufacturing industries, including semiconductor cleanroom operations, steel production processes, and shipyard block assembly.
“Leveraging our world model technology, we will collaborate with the K-Physical AI Alliance to cultivate a robotics ecosystem specifically tailored for Korean industries,” stated Lee Yeon-soo, CEO of NC AI.
NC AI is a key member of the K-Physical AI Alliance, a consortium comprised of companies, government-funded research institutions, and universities, with the goal of advancing AI-driven technologies by capitalizing on Korea’s advanced manufacturing capabilities.
